same engine is in cadilac CSTv or something. less power due to less compresion

if they are shipping as a complete engine (inc. supercharger) then its going to cost ALOT! much more than the LS7 and thats already preety exspencive!

now if they do a creat engine but without the supercharger, and GM use proper forged pistons this time, then it would make a great budget boost motor!

e headers on the LS9 look very similar to the ones that builder had on his ls7, so the current ultima ofering may bolt up

I think you may have a hard time turning the inlet manifold around on that...... so you may have to modify the inlet track with a big ubend.... but that throttle looks like it would be very close to the bulk head if not already to far forward....

that would be right about what aftermarket guys are running now. proven to work well with boost on LS engiens.

anyone know if its getting propper FORGED pistons?? the ford guys have been running 1000++bhp on stock bottom ends for a whille now. its about time the LS hasd that capability from stock!

i think the SC used on the Vette (think its the Eaton 2300) is avaliable, or will be soon, to buy. these things move LOTS of air for their size, some say more than the current generation of twin screew blowers. this is because both screws spin at the same time in the Eaton. the Twin Screws normally have a high speed and a low speed rotor.

alternatively someone like Jeff might beable to do a budget twin turbo. 2 61mm GTK (do they do them in that size???) could work well.

Not quite...

Twin Screw chargers are a screw compressor, they actually compress air in-between the screws - the screw's have different pitches and are geared accordingly.

The new Eaton's (TVS) are still root's blowers, just with 4 lobes rather than the previous 3 (of the older M/MP serise), Roots blowers do not compress air as such, they just 'pump' it.

The TVS is (on paper) somewhat more adiabaticaly efficent than the older M/MP serise, and if the test data is to be belived, they are as efficent as screw compressors (withing their operating window).

the upside to Root's vs. Screws is in their off-boost behavoir, a screw will still be trying to compress 'somthing' (even when fitted with by-pass valves), whereas a roots with a by-pass is just pushing air about, not compressing it.

This is why the big Merc's with screw compressors have a clutch on the charger snout to de-couple the charger when not on boost (this in itself an issue as the clutch'es seem to have a hard life and the have some lagg speeding up the charger.)

Capacity wise, a 2300 TVS shifts 2.3L of air per turn, much the same as a Lysholm 2300 screw compressor.

your right Scuffers....but i have been told the 2300TVS will out flow the Lysholm 2300. could you exsplane why that is??

well, I guess what they are trying to say is that you can spin it faster??

I have seen TVS's being tested at 30+K rpm, although I would not suggest this is anything like a sencible operating speed for one, it looks like Harrop are suggesting 18K is about the limit, so that's some 1,450CFM, enough air for some 900-1000Bhp

A Lysholm LYS 2300 AX looks to be rated at 13,500Rpm, so that's quite a bit less max airflow, but don't forget there is a LYS 3300 AX rated at 11,000Rp, so some 1,280CFM

the real supprise here is that the TVS's efficency figures look to exceed the screw's for the first time, thus the only real advantage the old screw had (over Root's) is not no longer the case.

well, should be no different really, KB do not make the screw's, they come from Opcon/Lysholm, (yes, I know that make big claims about being better etc etc, but no hard independant test evidence to suggest this).

The 2.8 have been said to be able to make over 1000bhp on the right setup. having said the the 2300TVS got very close to that (about 930bhp wasn't it).

be nice to see either used in an ultima.
