finished Ultima V10
Discussion
Sorry I haven't yet responded to my last string:
The reason I had to get the car finished, is that the house is being restored, and we're spending the winter is the workshop. So now that the car is out, i'm very busy making the shop habitable....
-1- number plate is temporary ( will probably be a sticker )
-2- alarm is being build in today
-3-car is now posted in the builders digest
-4- the seats a not black, but very dark gray... the Ultima seats pinched me under the armpits, and these don't.
In order to get the rake better, and the seats lower, I'm considering to cut of the bottom of the seat, and fiberglass it flat.
-5- Yep, I'm still working on the airbox...(pics are on site, under engine)
-6- next time i'm at kronenburg I'll give you a call, joop
Thanks to all for your responses!
And yes, I'm very plaesed with the result...

It would be really good if you guys could make it the National Kit Car Show at Stoneleigh next May, I for one would like to see your cars in the flesh.
Bas & I have talked about it, so it's well possible...but any other Ultima meet would be good tochuntington101 said:
Maurits amazing car mate! i cant get over how sort the engine is! any plans to fit the RS6 V10 Twin turbo engine??/
Chris.
The twin turbo V10 is available and could theoretically be used, but frankly I don't see the point. There's plenty of power to spare as it is,Chris.
and stuff like sourcing a gearbox would become a problem...
Plus, dont forget that M.T.M. allready gets 850BHP out of the old RS6 V8.
Bas's car (with this engine) now has 540BHP with only 0.8 or 1.0 bar turbo pressure.
If it's big that you want...one could also think about the Pheaton W12, size wise i think it would fit. And contrary to what people think it is in fact a beatifull engine....

Awesome project and a great build, which is a credit to you!
I would love to know what power that engine would make with the appropriate cams to allow you to make power all the way upto 8,500rpm if the bottom end can withstand it!
Just to be clear, the engine could already run at 8500 in theory, but the power now peaks at about 6500. We limit it at 7000 to increase durability.I would love to know what power that engine would make with the appropriate cams to allow you to make power all the way upto 8,500rpm if the bottom end can withstand it!
Replacing the cams to rise peak output is (again in theory) possible, but not economicaly feasable...
Impoving the VVT camshaft software would increase overall torque, but not high end power. But that not possible/compatible with our current KMS system.
You could ask Donkeasy how his Audi V10 now runs, since they are working to get as much power out of it as they can....
However sound wise, without airfilter it allready sound fantastic at RPM's as low as 4000!!...

Hi Maurits
I'm using the V8 from the B7 RS4.
I meant to ask Joop what he used for blanking off the high-pressure fuel pumps on the cylinder head. Is it simply a case of 'make-your-own', or did KMS have machined blanks available?
Also - are you running the VVT, or have you locked the cams off?
Cheers
Scotty

You're right, the FSI holes (whitch I think you mean) are simply pluged off.I'm using the V8 from the B7 RS4.

Bas from www.ulteamcars.nl machined these himself and glued/pressured them in.
If you mail him I'm sure he'd be happy to make you a set...
I'm asuming you know the compression is higher than a standard engine (typicly 16bar or 1/12 comp ratio) so you will need to run higher octane (super 98)fuel.
The new KMS MD35 does allow the VVT cams to be operated in an on/off (high/low rev) output. It would even be possible to run the in & out cams seperately.

Thanks Maurits... I've mailed Bas to see if he can supply!
Yes, I was aware of the high compression (12.5:1) on the V8. Did you use a knock sensor when setting up your engine? My ECU (Omex 710) only supports one knock sensor input, so is not much use for the RS4 lump which takes 4 sensors. Guess I'll just have to be careful!
Also, are you bothering to utilise the VVT... is it worth the hassle, or will you just lock them off on the hi-cam? The Omex will cater for it, but it sounds fiddly! Not sure whether there is a definite lo-cam advantage, or whether it's just an emissions- reducing measure!
Thanks again.

No, I don't have knock sensor because the KMS doesn't have it. But if you have, I would use it(in the most stategic place) you never know.Yes, I was aware of the high compression (12.5:1) on the V8. About the VVT: I would conect it for 3 reasons.
-1- It isn't as hard as it looks, and even so, challenging thinks can be fun, but that's just my opinion...
-2- It sounds great when you hear the engine rev into the high mode.
-3- If you're using individual thotle bodies like my car, you should keep in mind that these tend to overbreathe (or better said, leak) affecting idling, the low cam would make the car more docile and easyer to drive away.

Maurits... have you done anything to the gearbox, or have you kept it standard? I'm just wondering if there's an LSD out there for the Audi trans.
roaring forties (gt40s)http://www.roaringforties.com.au/quickbuild.html
they use the Audi boxes in there cars, i beleive the box in question is the O1E.
an LSD is listed as an option on there web site so something is available.

I don't have an LSD (yet), but bas has been experimenting with one, so I'm sure he could tell you more.(www.ulteamcars.nl)
That roaring fouties is a good car. shame they don't give more techical info.
But maybe one might even consire using their entire drivline layout in an Ultima.....(ford engine??)
