Some ideas on how to improve a (factory built)Ultima:
1. We put in a sequential gearshift, which is developed and produced in the Czech Republic. Works on all Getrag (up to 6-speed) and is even being tested by the Porsche factory. Maybe they will also use it on some of their cars. On my Ultima it means 100% improvement over the original Ultima (Porsche) gearshift. Much faster and accurate shifting. And real "race" feeling, too. Less than half a day of work.

2. Shiftlight plus central oil pressure warning light, on a carbon fibre plate. Looks and works great (if you have std. Ultima instruments and no Stack).

3. Electric wiring: We had a lot of problems with dropping Volt readings on the Voltmeter when switching on air-condition and fans. Put in new wires with larger diameter plus 3 relais. Result: Voltmeter reads always 14V, whatever I switch on. And ignition key (switch) does not get hot anymore.
Now we are starting work on the American Speed engine (heads, compression, EFI,...) plus improved cooling system plus Airbox,.... This is our winter project. If you like I will show you then the results.

Please provide more details about the wiring harness changes you made to solve the hot ignition switch issue.

The shifter Looks very good! How does the sequential system change gear? Pneumatics? I'm looking at a pneumatic system than also works together with the engine management system so it cuts ignition and by pneumatics also kicks the clutch between shifts.

Shifter looks great. Who makes it? Where can it be purchased?

Thanks,
Steve

Looks like the shifter cartronic offers. www.cartronic-motorsport.de
Better pictures on the German site.
Very expensive.

I try to answer the questions (but please understand, I am financial guy, no technician).

Concerning shifter:
It works mechanically, supported by electric magnet. It requires cables to the gearbox, no mechanical linkage. If you use a Hewland gearbox it can work as a full sequential system, without use of clutch. They are now also working on a solution to convert Getrag gearboxes to a sequential system. Looks like a relatively inexpensive option, I might do that on my Ultima. I guess Michael is right and this system is offered by Cartronic in Germany. But they do not produce it, as I understand have only exclusivity for Porsche cars, not for Ultimas. I bought directly with the producer in CR, at a much lower price. You can look at their website www.seqshift.com

Concerning Wiring:
This was done by my mechanic and a good electrician. Without any wiring diagram or new wiring harness, and pretty fast. Unfortunately I did not really understand what they did, but it works. They mainly replaced some wires from the battery to the fuses and from the alternator to the starter. Plus installed several relais for the fans. Plus put in a 40A main fuse. My 500W HiFi system is directly connected to the battery. Concerning ignition switch I understand that they just relieved it from all the wires going through it (maybe by using a relais?). Sorry for not being able to describe that better. Got the impression though that it can be easily done by any good electrician. (Their comment was that the original Ultima system is not up to do the job, to use nice words) And, I replaced also the alternator, new one is 100A and more robust (plus fabricated a new alternator bracket which guarantees now that the alt is fixed in the right angle to the motor).

Thanks for the info about the wiring. That gives me enough to know what to watch for during my build.
