A Stable Mate for the Ultima........

Tracking the Ult is a great laugh. An extremely flattering drive, with rediculous straightline speed and enough grip to trouble the Caterfields etc.
But - I reckon I've ridden my luck just about as far as I can on track and every outting is a as worrying as it is exciting. I've been thinking about getting something else to get to 'grips' with cornering, braking and trying to get a little closer to the car's limits and find my own.
So, I wanted mid engined, 1000kg, reliable, cheap, and with an option to race it if I like it. This time I didn't want to do any work - just buy a road legal race car - ready to race.........

Haven't tracked it yet - but it's noisy, bumpy and raw.

The rumours have it that I'm not the only nutter on this forum to sniff around these MR2 Championship cars.....

Hey Pete. Cool MR2! Can you give us some details about the car and its mods? Do you really think that is going to hit 200 or have you switched your focus to cornering? I'm not judging, I'm just interested. Your stable of past cars is impressive. I'll be interested in reading about your impressions/comparisons with your past and present cars.

It's a Jananese Import Turbo shell with a n/a engine. The UK cars were either moon roof or T-Bar.Needs to be n/a for the series:

How to turn a normal MR2 into a Race Car:
If you don't already have an MR2 you may want to put some careful thought into selecting the right one for racing. You can choose either a mk1 or a mk2 and it can be a UK car or a Japanese import. MSA regulations mean that you cannot race with glass in the roof so bare this in mind as most MR2s have either a sunroof or T-Bar roof - only some imported versions of the mk2 have a fully steel roof. Also spend some time researching the various revisions that were made to the MR2 since both power and handling characteristics can vary between different years.
Once you've sorted out your race car you'll need to add the following:
- Approved roll cage
- Approved plumbed in fire extinguisher
- Approved four point (minimum) harness
- Approved racing seat
- LED rain light
- Ignition cut-off circuit
- Approved Toyo R888 tyres
- Race number, novice badge and safety stickers
Std engine, std turbo suspension, stiffer springs and racing pads.

nice car pete. I loved my MR2 turbo although they were very rear end heavy and when it broke lose it was too late
If you need some bits theres a company i used to use for mine called Fensport in cambridgeshire... they not only sell loads of Mr2 goodies but also break cars as well. I had 3 lsd gearboxes from them in the 2 years i had mine(Still dont know why i kept breaking them). You will have loads of fun as well as tech training the local Toyota garages.

OK guys time to come clean.....I'm the 'nutter' Pete kindly mentioned in his opening post! Must admit as I've been getting nearer to having the GTR on the road the idea of a cheap track car has seemed more and more appealing......Petes idea of a 'mini' Ultima seemed perfect so jumped in & bought the other new build from Rogue!!
Picked the car up at Xmas and like Pete had a very cold and very raw 200 mile drive home.......good fun once you wind the thing & quite tail happy in the slippy conditions.......reckon it will be top fun on track
Once home left her at my paint man for a fresh lick of paint.....still overseas on business at the moment but he's sent a couple of pics so here you go.....before:

Pretty pleased with the new look.....looking forward to seeing it in the flesh and taking it on track at Snetts on the 14th Feb........
