Hi,

can anyone tell me the exact type of the Getrag gearbox
used by the factory? Should be stamped on it similar to the G50 box. I have a G64 at the moment that cannot hold the torque of the engine.
As I anyway need a new gearbox I thought about using a Getrag instead of a G50. Any disatvantages?
Thanks.

Michael,

Are you sure you have a G64?
The G64 is out of the Carrera 4 and therefore has a centre diff and output shaft at the front (rear when flipped for use in an Ultima)

The later models also had some electronics (stability contol).

What makes you think that the box cant handle the torque?

I have the Getrag fitted in my car. I had a quick look last night to see if I could see any identifying numbers. The unique serial number stamped on it begins with G960 - would this identify the gearbox. I'll have a closer look tonight if it will help.

Doc,
it´s a modified G64 20 with the head of a G50, therefore no output shaft.
I asked the guys at Cartronic-Motorsport (they should know) about the
gearing of my box and they told me this type cannot hold the torque mainly due to the small diff it has.
There are G64 versions that have a stronger diff than mine.

Chewy,
this must be the number I am looking for. It would be nice if you can look at it.
Thanks a lot in advance.

I posted before I read Matt`s post.
The GT3 gearbox seems to be the ideal solution. No need for a new adapter plate and clutch. And it has a cable shifter. As I use a BMW V8 there is nearly no space for a central gearshift linkage.

I know were there are a couple for sale but these boxs arn't cheap, you can probably get a brand new Getrac one for less than a used GT2/3 one...... but then again these boxs are over £15k new!

So a cable shift 6 speed gearbox with the same mounting patern and starter motor position as a G50 from a gearbox designed to handle more power than the Getrac or G50 isn't the way to go.....

Did they give a reason?
