Hi Guys
Decided to test LuckyP's idea of testing the intake charge temp , firstly with just the standard Holley filter on and rear lid closed in my garage , oh and I'm based in South Africa , the intake temp at idle averaged 80/85 deg/C at 1500 rpm and went up to 90/94 deg/C at 3000 rpm .
I then extended a 130 mm silicone pipe through the rear intake lid down into the carb , with the temp pick up still at the carb the intake charge temp went to 33 deg/C at 1500 rpm and at 3000 rpm it went up to 45 deg/C .
By the way I've Increased my front fans to SPAL's new 11" 1600 CFM fans , thats a total of 3200 CFM ,thats 1400 CFM more than the 10" Pacet fans, when the fans kicked in the intake temp increased from 33 deg/C to 45 deg/C , so the heat from the front fans changed the intake temp by 12 deg/C .
What can I say 50 deg/C better off at the worst scenario parked in a garage.....

Sooooooooo....... Im looking for ideas and hopfully some CAD drawings or photo's of a new design cold charge intake filter to fit on an AMS 685 hp (377) , thats got a 4150 hp series carb .........

Strike: Were all of these done standing still? If so, I will suggest that I can monitor these temps on the fly with the Motec. That might change the situation perhaps not for the good but it would be intresting to see the corelation between the speed of the car and any drop or raise in inlet temp. I have the GTR down for a couple of weeks preparing for a car show but when that's done I will give it a try. Lee
Thats very interesting stuff.......intake and general clip temps are something I'm really concerned about for the future health of my engine/transaxle.... also a 377 (not A/S though)
Had you thought about extending your testing to various points under the rear clip when running under varied conditions? (out on the road not a dyno)
A week or so ago there was a thread which touched on aero's/clip breathing but it was all just theory..... didn't have anyone post actual test results!

Yes they were all done standing still in my garage.
Surely the temps will only get better when driving , for one I also have side scoops installed , has to get better....
I did do extended testing to various points under the rear clip when running
in the garage , one that really was concerning is the temp coming from the air vents either side of the rear clip intake , they were at 123 deg/C , thats the temp of the air exiting said vents while idling at 1500 rpm.
I'm planning on more tests in real driving conditions soon , but right now a cold air induction box is a must , 50 deg/C is serious heat , we all want free HP and cold air is..... .

Wish I could use the side intakes on my GTR but on one side is the dry sump rad and fan the other is aircon rad and transmission rad and fan , so my side pods are a wee bit full.
Great heat reflective gold tape , how thick is it and is it durable....????

Take a look back at this previous thread where I posted a photo of my CanAm intake sealed to the clamshell so it draws only external air. It should be possible to do smiliar with a GTR albeit a bit morre ductwork required.
