How easy is it to replace the water pump on a 5.7 v8 chevy? Any guides to doing it ?

I bought a nice new one to replace the rusty looking one I have, but fancy doing it myself if I can

Drain the system. . . remove hoses. . . slacken the alternator, remove the belt . . . remove four bolts (2 each side) holding the water pump on. . . . hit with mallet to free from gaskets. . . . change pulley and heater fittings to new pump (be careful here, alloy fittings!!) . . . .clean off old gaskets. . .and in true Haynes manual style. . . reverse procedure to assemble!

Shouldn't take more than 90mins smile

an easy job give it ago, you will have a bad back when you have finished. Its mega important to clean the mating surfaces properly, its always wort replacing the belts while they are off.

Pumps not turned up yet :-( so hopefully tommorrow or saturday. There's no harm in taking it all off though tommorrow in preperation for it, so that's what i'll do.

A thin smear of plain LM grease (the tan coloured waxy type) either side of the new gasket is always good on a water pump job too....far more appropriate than sealers, silicone etc.
Also, whenever you re-fit a component that utilises several retaining bolts, hand start (by at least 2-3 turns) all the securing bolts first before you fully tighten any of them and remember to try and tighten things equally in opposite clamping sequence.
