Now, am I just turning into a cynical old git or was Top Gear clearly sponsored by BMW this evening? To start with there's a piece on the new M3 CSL... nice as it looks. To make the link between the new and the old they then went onto cover the first 1970's CSL. OK, I thought, now onto something more interesting. Guess what, the next piece is on the pedigree of the CSL and the fact that it stems from the original M1, M3 and M5!!! Holy whistling duck s**t but more BMW's!!!

So, finally they come onto a piece on sports cars comparing the Porsche Boxter and the Honda S2000 to, guess what... oh yes, the BMW Z4! And guess what won when taken round the track by the new Stig... yes, another bloody BMW victory!

Now, I wouldn't mind all that much if the whole thing hadn't been filmed on the Isle of Man... it was nothing more than a tourism promo for all BMW owners to go to the little island and tear-arse round the place without fear of a single speeding ticket.

When I'm not enjoying the Ultima at the weekend I use a far more mundane car to get to work and back... yes... you guessed it; a BMW 745i. To redress the balance somewhat I can confirm that it is, by far, the worst car I've ever had the missfortune to own! In the 6 weeks I've had it it's spent 5 of them back in the garage and has, today, packed up completely and is sitting on my drive waiting for a truck to collect it and take it back to the place I bought it from... oh, except for the fact that the recovery truck drivers can't seem to get the park (hand)brake off!!!!

So, can anyone suggest something, other than a BMW, that might work for long enough to get me the 100 miles to work tomorrow?

Happy motoring,
Dom.

Why didn't they just ask Stig which was the best car to drive rather than spend all that time while three tossers played plonkers. What a waste of airtime! Yawn. Are they going to do a TVR family next week?

It was IIRC. And not even the 'S' - which would have been the fairer comparison....
