Neutral safety switch?

To pass regulation where I live, the car needs a neutral safety switch. it prevents the engine from firing if the clutch pedal is not depressed. Anyone ever installed one of those? I understand every car manufacturer have their own switch design. Any universal ones out there? or a brand that is easier to install than others?

Does it need to be a switch that senses when neutral is selected, or when the clutch pedal is down? A generic brake light switch on the clutch pedal should do the job if that's all you need, but getting a neutral detector added to your 'box would take a lot more work.

It's for a manual gearbox, and it doesn't need to know if it's in gear or not. It just needs to cut power to ignition unless the clutch pedal is depressed, so the car can't suddenly move when the engine is started.

Should it not close the starter relay circuit? (brake switch could certainly be used for that)
If its a 'cut out' on the ignition it'll be like learning to drive again every time you change gear....kangaroo style?

I would suggest you bring this switch in series to the engine start button or ignition switch only if the clutch is pressed you can actually close the circuit
and start the engine. If you use the Ultima supplied ignition switch and wire it for key starting it actually has a failsafe
that only after turning fully off the ignition you will be able to restart. This is a protection so you cannot gear in the starter motor
in the running engine.
You will have to use either a relay for this task or a switch that can handle the current that is necessary
to gear in the starter motor.

There is already a starter relay in the Ultima circuit so you only need to wire the safety switch in the wire between ignition switch and relay. Thin Red/white wire to relay pin 86.

I finally installed the neutral safety switch. I used the brake light pedal motion kit from the factory, installed it on the clutch pedal and wired it with the white/red wire from the ignition. works like a charm!
