Finally got to test the brakes at the weekend - unintentionally! Lovely little blat down a good road near us, only to find 4 deer run out in front of me, right to left, leaving the 5th, bambi, on the right to join them. I must take this opportunity to thank Bambi most sincerely, as if he had decided to join his family, my son and I would not be here to tell the tale.

I can also confirm that my brake bias adjustment is correctly set.

Actually, I was cruising along this lovely piece of road at 140, only to see these animals stoll accross from the right. Holy **** - hit the brakes, and wow, do they work - even with boots this size, it makes the Ult stand on its noise and yes I can now confirm that it will do a 4 wheel lock-up - plumes of smoke!

Having said all this, I became aware that the 75yrd stopping distance was not enough from this speed, even in the Ult, so I had to do the usual "pick a soft spot". Moving from right to left meant that part of the oncoming lane just became clear in time, so I was able to take the necessary avoiding action! As I went past, I looked into the eyes of the last waiting deer on the rhs and gave him a nervous smile - it could have been the case of "what was the last thing to go through their mind - their arse" (or his arse?)syndrome.

Thank you Ultima. What a car! I was thinking however, if I had hit the deer, would I have taken out its legs and it gone over the top, or would it have landed in my face and impaled me and my seat on the rear bulkhead? Perhaps I need to fit bullbars!

I now count myself as one lucky chap!

Let us know the outcome if you ever decide to carry out the "deer test" in full.
