dry sump tank for LS7

Does anybody know what size dry sump tank the factory is using.
They might be Peterson from the looks. My engine supplier would have a 3 gallon Peterson
that he can supply with the engine, but I have the faint idea it will not fit in the space where the
factore is recommending the install.


08-0009 3 Gallon Single scavenge inlet, 16" high x 9" dia. -12 AN Female Fittings.

I have seen some installs where they have fit the dry sump tank sideways at the gearbox
and they did look like this fat Peterson monster. According to the website the tank
is 16 inch tall, as I do not have the chassis yet I cannot measure the clearance at the back
if this 16inch will fit in this space ?

That tank will be too large to mount in the engine compartment. The factory supplied sump is taller than that and a real TIGHT fit. Go for the factory supplied kit, you`ll get a nice mounting plate and all fixing hardware + oil lines + D-12 fittings. Thetank is also from Peterson.

Hi Spatz

you can mount the dry sump tank in two places with a normally apsirated LS7, in the corner of the bulkhead behind the passenger.... but the tank needs to be tall and slim (much like myself..... not) or you can mount it next to trannie on the passenger side but then it needs to be short and fat..... yes i know!!!

thanks I have seen the fat installs and running expensive long braided hoses full of oil I see the advantage
for the slim guy that will help me keep the hoses as short as possible.
Have visited Ultimicheal yesterday and it seems that my french engine will be a tight fight on the bulkhead with the external oil pump these guys are using.

thanks I have the build manual already there are lots of pics of the install but had no dims for the tank

I have the long thin Petersen DS tank as supplied by Jeff. Fits nicely behind the passenger bulkhead.
My oil gets quite warm with the LS7 (ok my G50 ratios mean I'm revving a bit higher than I'd like at the moment) so I wouldn't skimp on the capacity of the tank! It doesn't get much in the way of direct air cooling either tucked where it is..

I'm using the light weight 2 gallon Peterson tank and have mounted it on the left of the transaxle to keep the front of the engine compartment uncluttered.

My car has the California Motorsports side shifter.

It fits well.

This photo was taken before the turn downs were attached to the muffler and the SpinTech muffler was ceramic coated.

This was also with the standard 2 gallon Peterson tank, car now has a light weight tank that has no seam for cleaning and as a result the fit is much better (tank is lower in the chassis).
