Help....Anyone in the Midlands with a sound check device??
Discussion
I have the first trackday of the year this Saturday at Mallory Park and think their decibel limit is 98 (or maybe 100) and so to avoid being blackflagged I was wondering if anyone has one of those decibel reading machines?
I've done all my trackdays under a 105 decibel limit and never had a problem but you never know.
I'm near Sutton Coldfield/Aldridge but can travel.
Thanks in advance.
Robin.

Hi Rob
Maplins did used to sell a dba meter for about 25 quid, could be a good investment. Make sure you get 'dBa' rather than dBc though.
Dave
Thanks for that Dave, as I have no idea about DBa vs DBc can you take a look at this and see what you think...Maplins did used to sell a dba meter for about 25 quid, could be a good investment. Make sure you get 'dBa' rather than dBc though.

You need to go up to the next one which is both A & C.

They did used to do a cheaper one but it seems they no longer stock it.
I believe Dbc is a much broader frequency range than dBa. As far as i understand dBa is a similar frequency range to human hearing.

I'll also be able to get a reading at the track.
Hi Robin
Can Am Dave has a noise tester i will ask him if he minds checking your car for you. Both the pipes that go under the rear chassis tube have nearly worn through so they will want patching up or re sleeving. It should be a lot more fun with full throttle and a fully working clutch

Reference the pipes worn, they have surface rust too so want to pull them out and replace with something a little nicer...another one for the 'to do' list.
Shocking to hear that it was only giving me 80% full throttle, will need the extra at Mallory this Sat methinks!

Ive got a LS7 powered Ultima here and that is 98 db and its a lot quieter than yours, i think you will be close to 105 db. Ive heard they are quite strict at Mallory
oh no! Had to cancel Silverstone (as you know), lost the insurance cover I paid for. Now if I get black flagged on noise 10 mins in I'll be gutted.Adjust that throttle cable back to 80% mate!
Stop the press! it's 101db and the circuit days guys just told me this is kinda 'soft'
Have to find the mics locations and back off each time i go past I guess. Just want to give the GTR a shakedown now it has the new brakes, suspension etc...plus get some decent photos of it in action.
