How well does the GTR handle sticky slicks on the track? Am I going to end up with something bent out of shape after an hour of cornering at 1.5G and more?

As a minimum I think you should be replacing the suspension with the factory rose jointed arms as they were designed for track use. Putting slick loads through road suspension could end in tears.

How will you get the slick tyres to the track? If you are using a support vehicle then would it not be better to just have a track dedicated car.

Not just the suspension either, the gearbox/clutch/transaxle will take a hammering too.

I wanna be able to enjoy my Ultima outside of the track too. So no, it's not going to be a track dedicated car. But I do want to make sure I'm not going to break something by putting slicks on. I think the drivetrain will be ok, but I'll look at the rose-jointed suspension setup.

The only readily available track focused tyres out there seem to be Khumo's or Toyo 888's with sizes conducive to our cars and as it happens Rusti and I are looking to buy a set of the latter for our rides although the only size available for the fronts are 255/35 as opposed to 245/40 which will mean an increase in width and a decrease in height but it is workable yes Should you be interested please give us a shout as buying in bulk may well be advantageous for us all.

I was looking at the Toyos. But I don't think I can help with your group buy, being in Canada. smile

I was thinking of the Yokohama Advan A005 for the track.

I've posted this previously, but I got my Toyo R888's used from John Berget Racing Tires (www.jbracingtires.com), he gets used tires from the Sprint cup pro's. They run them down to where they would be shaved, so still life for us non pro track junkies. He was selling the Toyo's for $75 ea. plus about $25-30 shipping, which sure beats the $450 per tire on the rears for new. Even if you get a first set to try before investing in new, but personally I'll continue to buy used and I believe Paul (San Diego GTR) also purchased some if you need a second opinion on quality.

I have rose jointed suspension and first time out on track I experienced some tire scrubbing and had to raise the ride height. I have since purchased the track springs and as added piece of mind the suspension mounting upgrade kit the factory recently brought out, but yet to try her out again on track.

Changing subject, I'd be really interested in an e-mail exchange on how you fared getting an Ultima into Canada. I'm going to have to move back at some point and don't expect to be able to bring the Ultima cross border from the US, so a fresh build may be in order. I understood a complete kit in a box wouldn't get into Canada either? If your up for it my e-mail is julian_kift(at)hotmail(dot)com.

If you want a group buy let me know as I deal with Toyo promo department and get my tires under sponsorship. I may be able to get you a good price if its for at least a couple of sets of the R888 (which I use).
They are the business and last a lot longer than the Khumo tire.
