where did the tyre treads go?
Discussion
Just replaced my rear goodyears with Kumho s (as they were half the price of the goodyears). My old tyres were just down to the wear indicators on the insides, and close to on the outsides.
When I picked up the wheels having had the new tyes fitted the fitter said "these new tyres have got less tread than the old ones" And its kind of true. Not sure how long these will last but the outer qtrs (ie half the tread pattern ) looks close to illegal. And the have only covered 20 feet! Was hoping they would cover a bit more distance.......
My MOT is next week (hence the change of tyres) Will be interesting to hear any comments about the tread depth.

Well I know they were cheaper than the good years,I am not a mega rich builder you see! but will see how long they last. I must be driving like a granny as I have done around 20k miles on 2 rear sets! (they were a bit worn though!) I do around 2k a year only, so will see how long these last. I run 315's and I couldn't get them in the usual makes, eg Pzeros, only track tyres and goodyears.
But I see that some of you are going Toyo 888's ....... any better? or more tread?

^ I had the chance to be a semi rich builder but then I built a GTW, and that was the end of that
It is early days with the 888's yet but first impressions are very good; a fair bit of tread, a ton of grip in dry conditions and still a good few cwt in the wet + minimal if any wear after a day at Goodwood (round the circuit that is, not parked up in the paddock
)
I have had experience of these tyres before all be it on a Volvo (it was a T5 at least) and I found them to last very well considering what they are, a soft track day/road tyre.
