Where's the best place to get one? I've got an AS engine with winged canton sump and a screw on filter. Are my local motor factors likely to be able to get one?

Maybe a little quid pro quo here? Putting my hands on metric step drills is damn near impossible here in the States. I can source them from Klien Tools via the web, but they are about $75 USD each! They should be gold plated for that kind of money!

Took me forever to find a metric steel yardstick (meterstick?) that was zero'd at he edges. (no extra metal before the measurements start...)

I got a couple of K&N filters from Performance Unlimited(www.performanceunlimited.co.uk) along with some other stuff. Friendly lot. John Woolfe Racing (www.woolfe.com/) or US Auto(www.usauto.co.uk/) or Real Steel (www.realsteel.co.uk/) will almost definitely have them.

As far as I know the K&N filters are pretty much the best of the spin on paper oil filters.

In a sparsely populated but geographically large chunk of land directly north of you are available all kinds of metric tools.

Including the rare metre (yardsticks to you) measuring sticks in both steel and aluminum.

And even with our dollar becoming stronger you can still get some very good deals on these and a myriad other metric items.

I was going to purchase some 20mm (3/4") wide aluminum flats to make templates for drilling the alloy panels, but the local Canadian Tire store sells a metre long aluminum "yardstick" complete with accurate ruled markings, for $4CDN, so I bought two and will drill them to use as templates instead.

Point I am trying to make is that most Canadians close to you will likely be more than happy to mail you what you need (myself included) for a whole lot less money.

I just shipped out a couple of cartridges of Wurth "Bond and seal" "Klebt und Dichtet" to the US. (I think the factory refers to it as Sikaflex) because it is apparently rare and unobtanium in the US.

I appreciate all the help out there!

I am really just looking for a set of step drills that covers the range between 8 or 10mm to 32 or 34 mm. I would think the 2mm increments would be fine, but flexible. I will look over the websites posted here and see what I can come up with. I had not forgotten my Canadian neighbors! Checked a couple of sites there as well. I did finally source a suitable meter stick after 3 months of searching. Also picked up a 119 piece drill bit set with fractionals, numbered and lettered bits. I figure there will be enough there to get very close to the metric sizes. We Yanks are opposed to change, I think. The whole metric system makes sense to me, but trying to get all these people to adopt is impossible. (Let the flaming begin!) Besides, who wouldn't like to see 340 flash by on the speedo? (Even if its KPM?) :-)

Don't worry, we may have gone metric but there are quite a few things taking a long time to die.
We still use MPH for our speed and MPG for our fuel consumption but it's god knows how many years since you could buy a gallon of petrol.
