My car is just in the last stages of completion and a big worry has risen.
The car is a 'Sport', and we have had the Rover plant replaced with an Audi 4.2. Some people on this forum will know of the car and I will post some pictures once it gets out of the paint shop.
The big question is.....is there any chance DVLA will request a SVA (old name), because of the changes made to the car. This would add unnecesary cost to the overall project and inconvenience i.e electric wing mirrors etc..
In the perfect world, I would like to hand in my log book and bits and get the engine number altered.
I hope someone has some accurate info and not just a stab in the dark as I would like to be prepaired in expectation of what could happen.

You can do almost anything you like to the car post SVA/IVA. Provided it will pass an MOT. As above, you don't even have to notify them of the engine number change. I'm going to assume the car is already registered.
Amend your V5C (log book) with the new engine size, new engine number and sign the declaration.
Send this to DVLA along with a receipt for the engine.
If the receipt is not on headed paper they may not accept it as happened to me with my Dakar. They asked for an engineers report confirming that the new engine is fitted to the vehicle.
From your comments I take it the car has been off the road and also been painted. In which case you will also need to add the colour change on the V5C.
If the car needs an MOT then get the inspector to include on your invoice a charge, of say £10, 'To inspect and confirm that engine number xxxxxxxx is now fitted to the car and that the colour has been changed to ????????'. Include that with the V5C and you should have it covered.

ETA I think Paul is wrong and you are required to inform them of the engine change. These details are part of section 7 'changes to current vehicle'.
