Clutch adjustment G50

Have searched for info on this but no joy.
I am having difficulty selecting 1st gear when stationary. Clutch seems to engage as soon as cluth is released a tiny bit. However pedal seems heavy as soon as I begin to press. Adjustment can be made at the pedal but how can I tell if I have gone to far and so risk incomplete engagement slippage etc?
ie how do I adjust the clutch properly?
