Advice wanted..

Any advice you can think of that might help someone who at presant is looking into the prospects of owning an ultima .... i dont intend to build the car, its the day to day quirks and use over country roads i m interested in ...
I have not as yet driven or been in one, but have made contact with the factory who have been helpful and sugested a visit which i m sure will be a hell of an introduction to it....
any help gratefully recieved...

unfortunatly its a regular trip i do ....
during these exciting trading times, i m like a rabbit in the headlights all week, but assuming the factory can accomodate me at some point on a weekend i should be fine for a formal introduction to the ultima ...
It s heartening to know the forum members are so helpful, which i dont doubt will make ownership more pleasurable ... (As i dont have the time to / will not have built the car and will lack knowledge)
Next step, the factory visit then...

If this is to be more or less the sole purpose of your acquisition you would be better off going for a Lotarse or VX220 I should think. Agility + not TO much power + sensible money = the right tool for the job 
If, on the other hand, you have set your heart on an Ultima then you will find it easy enough to justify ownership no matter what type of roads you frequent

Does the story include head gaskets? 
Go for the Ultima, what have you got to lose? Even if you buy one and sell it soon after you won't lose much money at the moment. Sometimes they take a little time to sell is all but a quick look through PH classifieds will give you an idea of what's for sale, what's been for sale and the price they go for.
Have you a spec in mind, anything you want to achieve? Even in Ultima's there is choice with regard to engines, transaxles, power, whether you have a roof or not (GTR or Canam), oh and colour of course!

funnily enough, it didnt include the head gasket ...
but it did include a snapped cambelt well before due,ceramic brakes that dont brake at all on wet motorways, enless you dab them every half mile , new rear advans every 3000 miles (and i never spun the wheels just the car !),, and as for the build quality ....well the engine lid and bonet manage shed their bracket nuts regularly and i might as well have had the hood off and windows down in the rain !!!! ( they never did wind after the first year )
its the gtr i m interested in and engine wise,i d go all the way...colour is a problem...i like the way yellow always looks clean and it makes the car more visible thus safer ....

not sure whats ruffled your feathers, but bear in mind i am at the start of an exciting journey into ownership that you yourself have had the pleasure of undertaking, i assume...i dont get the where you re responses are coming from,in that i ve simply politely asked for advice with a few reservations to ownership i d like to clear up ...1500bhp??? that should be fun on b roads
obviously the car wont be solely used for the journey i ve described as i would nt bother looking at the higher spec engines....i intend the car as a keeper and i d like to make the right decisions from the off, rather than have regrets...
A lot will depend on my visit to the factory and the car as i realise to buy at this present time i potentially pay three times the price tag if i withdraw some money from the markets to go ahead (all in these past weeks)...
its a case of head verses heart and i m sure the visit to the factory will clear this up....

youve taken what i said completely the wrong way.....
A maxxed engine is great but you need to be clear what youre useage of the car is going to be, if you want to use it on b roads you wont need a lot of power but if you want to do standing quaters etc then you can have a lot more.
