Hi,

I am seriously considering buying an Ultima, I dont have the time, or I dont imagine, the expertise to build my own, so I am looking at a pre owned car (Spyder).

As a very general question, what should I be looking for, and what pitfalls should I consider during ownership.

I currently drive a Cerbera, and I am quite happy with the normal mechanical issues, but have very little experience of the Ultima. Your help would be appreciated.

(Can i change the Spider screen for the Can am full height screen?)

Simon - To answer your last question first, no, not easily. A few owners have looked into this but none, so far as I know, have done it. Maybe check with the factory?

When buying an Ultima, it is like buying any other car. If you know what your looking at and have done some research you should be fine. If you don't know one end of a spanner from the other, get someone to help.

If I can give some advice though, it would be, look at as many cars as you can. Get a feel for how they can be finished. Visit the factory (very welcoming) to see how the cars go together. All the cars out there are individual, it is this very nature that gets the owners involved. This can mean some very different specs. Think about what you want the car to be. If you want to use it all year round? Look at a Sport or GTR. If it is only for "sunny" days (or you like the rain in your face) then the the Spider is a fantastic car.
Try and talk to as many owners as you can. You may find one or two at the next VW meet.

Best of luck

Paul
