The CanAm Scores Big at Boston's World of Wheels

We had the CanAm at the 2004 World of Wheels show in Boston. This is the 30th year for this indoor annual 3 day event. As this is the middle of winter here, having it indoors works out well.
While American custom cars, hot rods, muscle cars and motorcycles are the prime entrants, there are over a dozen kit cars on display also.
The CanAm was there to attract attention to a driving and time trial club that I belong to.

While we were there, we decided to enter the car in the competition, with all the other kit cars. I guess they wished we hadn't!!

About 100,000 more people have now seen an Ultima in the US. The major majority of them liked it, some of them liked it even more!!

I have to tell you this. There was a cute blonde (this is not a blonde joke) with a guy standing at the front of the car looking at it. She stood there for at least 2 minutes with a fixed stare at the car. I finally went over and asked her if her look was one of disgust or pleasure. Her reply was "she had never seen anything so beautiful". Struck up a conversation with the pair and gave them a brief history of the car. I could tell mainly by her body actions, she would almost do anything for a ride in the car sometime, but alas my wife was helping out at the display!!

Seriously though, I've followed you through your entire build and your attention to detail is really impressive.

After looking at Jeff's, Jay Esterer's, and your car, its inspired me to redo a few things on my car and clean things up a bit. I also now have a more clear picture of a few minor modifications I plan to pursue within the next few months. Nothing too radical though.

Jack - did you have to raise the intake hump on the rear canopy to get the carb scoop on, or does it fit under the standard clip?

As a matter of fact, I lowered the scoop slightly

probably about 1/2" and it's fine, except for the fact that not much air goes into the scoop, just the opposite when the full size windscreen is on.
I'm sure that the air scoop on the GTR actually feeds air to the engine compartment, but on the CanAm, the windscreens, especially the full one, sucks hot air from the intake. I'm going to try and find a way to seal the intake scoop to the body, and still be able to open the clip. The solution will probably be to fabricate a plenum to the rear clip that drops on, and seals itself to the EFI. Won't look as good, but should work better. I can hear and feel the difference in the engine when it's getting some cooler air when the smaller windscreen is fitted.

I considered it for mine, but there wasn't enough room. As it is, the filter element on mine is pretty shallow, about 50mm or so! That's why I use a vented top, to give me the same filter surface area as a 'normal' one. Was a bit concerned by yet more metal on top of the blower. No room for an insulating sandwich plate either

Now, one in carbon fibre however
