AIRBOX for CANAM with old style throttle

folks, my airbox is almost finished, thought you want to see it as it fixes two problems with the canam hood. Now only cold air will be used and hot air cannot come
any longer in your neck. Still have to seal the gap between hood and air box, but I am having already solution for this too.

Are you going to secure the filter in place or just let it sit there?

I am using pretty much the same filter on my efi conversion and am still undecided if I should find a way to hold it down.

I have not been driving around with it, but I do not think any fixing is necessary, the vaccum the engine is generating is holding this thing really down !
However when you go over a bumb at no throttle maybe, we will see not to difficult to hold in place, 2 or 4 clamps will do.

Perhaps some wire mesh over the filter secured by some screws to be on the safe side

If you block off the air inlet apart from the filter, how to you get some fresh air under the canopy? Will the side scoops be sufficient to flow some cooler air around the engine?

from the top scoop you do not get air flow into engine bay if anything on move its negative.
I like the set up though did you fabricate yourself?

sure not but still better than the hot air from the inside.......right? If you have no ram air duct, then sucking it is for all of us.
I have temporarily closed the gap with some rubber sheet and it is working great then. THIS IS NOT FINISHED YET, have to close the gap to avoid any
hot air being sucked by the engine.
I manufactured it myself with the help of a build buddy who is a great welder

Spatz, what is the grey thing spouting from the bottom of the box on the right of the throttle bodies? A sensor or somthing like that?

that is the air temp sensor for the ECU
very helpful to have it there for correct readings

All looking good mate! Although no ram air I'm sure once you've sealed it off from the engine bay it will be fine. I get good ram air effect having my filter in my reverie side scoop. It all comes down to what works and fitting it all in the engine bay!

Looking great! Love the orange color. That filter looks just like the stock filter that was originally on my Camaro. And you will want to clamp that down somehow. The stock airbox that was on my car held that filter down in place when the cover was clamped over it. You don't want that popping loose on you while driving.

long time very quiet, are you busy with rushford ?
I thought about adding a ram intake but that would destroy the whole look of the car......
As I am not a big fan of the plumbing that a side intake would require
this is the next best solution.
I know you are using the procharger is there still a benefit from ram air intake ?

Great job and very similar to what I am running on my CanAm. I have an upper portion to the airbox that is fiberglassed into the clam shell which seals the two halves together. My filter is not fixed in any way and has never moved.

I have taken a back seat from Rushford as my life is just too busy! I have started work on my own car again! I am fitting new exhaust headers and system over the winter! The car will also get it's long awaited new heads and full boost! I intend to use the car in plenty of events next year!
I think your intake is the best option for your car. I am impressed with your build and the car is looking great! I hope you plan to bring it over to the UK next year?

Mine has never had an issue, but then again it hardly ever rains here in Nevada

I had a long think about this when doing mine and decided that rain would enter when driving but would just act as a charge cooler and give me more power!!!!!!
Basically it will just get ingested but will not be enough to cause problems. It did convince me that I would need to use a K&N as a paper one would probably not survive.

I have a similar setup on my GTR. I just use the K&N grease to 'seal' the filter in my housing with no form of retention and all is fine.

As for water ingres, yes it can happen when it rains hard, but more likely when you wash the car. I have a fibreglass box bonded to the clip that has a sort of gutter build in with a drain hole at the botton, this catches any water washing in so it does not end up in the air intake.
