SVA Drive

Well, not the best weather for a drive to the SVA centre but still turned out to be a great day.

The GTR handles like a dream and the engine it to good for words.

The attention this car draws is unreal.

So when the car got the magic bit of paper from the SVA man

Think I could be here for quite a while.

Sorry to say it was not the 1st time, as they failed me yesterday even worse weather than today by the way, on the locking mechanism supplied by Ultima for the brake bias bar, they said it should have been roll pinned through the nut so I could not adjust it. If you ask me a debatable point. But can't complain as he let me bring it back the next day when I had roll pinned it. So had two chance to drive it to the test centre.

Think the rules very a bit between the stations.

Tyres, watch what speed you put down on the form as the Goodyear's do not show on the tyre that they can exceed zr rating which is 149mph, but you can get a letter from Ultima to show that they can do the 160mph they told me to write on the form.

Mirrors watch the height you put them at as they are only just meet the standard for looking over the rear of the car.

Think it is the 1st GTR to be tested at Exeter.

I took my old girl to Nottingham, as the factory told me to, would normaly have gone to Birmingham, (have SVAed some imports there), they said as long as the brake bias was tightened with a locknut and not adjustable, (I disconnected the cable) that was fine, havn't herd of the need to pin it, thats a new one I bet ?

My understanding is you drive it there without plates but you must have insurance. You take out the insurance against the chassis number.

No do not need plates, as long as you have insurance and a booked sva appointment, you are can drive it from the place of storage or repair to the SVA centre, if you pass or fail you are aloud to drive it back to the place of storage or repair. This is what the sva man told me.

There is perhaps a caveat to that.
In the MOT system you get a red failure notice if the failure is deemed to be unsafe to drive. The same probably applies with SVA.

Not that I know of. Certainly didn't for the JBA.

Well done Chris! Great feeling driving back from the SVA, eh?

I got away just with the standard locknut on the bias bar. Don't see what difference a roll pin makes to be honest, just as easy to take it off and adjust as with locknut alone. As you say, for something minor like that not worth arguing, although pointing out that it's accepted at other SVA stations seems fair enough.
