Audi transaxle???

So I've herd good for 400ish bhp but not good for 500lbs.....
I did use a Renault Gearbox in my GT40 but it was only 400horse, and I did blow up 5th gear once...

Do you mean blank the rear wheel drive?

Many of the Audi boxes are 4x4 and you need to blank off the rear wheel drive mech for it to work on a mid engined car like ours - the 2.7 diesel tranny is available as a 2wd though, and very strong so probably the best choice.

On the R8 box it is the front wheels. The box is in the correct position and takes the hp (not so sure on the torque)

I asked the question some time ago, but don't recall getting a clear answer. I imagine that the box may be limited in the amount of torque it can handle, but a real advantage is that it is engineered to be placed mid-ship like in an Ultima.

Thats what I thought but figured there must be very good reason why no-one has done it, assuming no-one has. Given that they're in relatively plentiful supply and cheaper than a used G50.

Have you asked the Factory? Perhaps they have the explanation

I think you will find the diesel Audi has too long a set of ratio's for easy driving with a 'revvy' petrol engine.

Also: I think the Boxter box is not as robust as the fabled G50 especially with the V8 torque and much wider sticky tyres, but what box in in the Cayman? (prob the Boxster) The Boxster is also a cable shift.

Its a great idea if your using a small engine with low torque as its not a strong box and wouldnt take even the lightest fettled V8... the audi diesel gearbox is stronger and cheaper and also in the same possition etc etc.
