Fuel Pump Relay

Has anyone fitted a cut out relay to their high pressure pump? I intend fitting a relay but was wondering if I need to fit a fuel cut off relay, or does the GM ECU tell the pump when to operate. ie.the pump only runs when the engine is running?

The cut-out is in case of an accident! Shock will turn off power so that high pressure fuel will not squirt everwhere if a leak is present etc. Or you can get oil pressure ones that could save your engine.

Hi Graham , normaly the ecu controls the fuel pump , did on my emerald unit and the Nob is the same .

The MegaSquirt ECU I will be using also controls the pump.
When you switch on it gives a prime pulse of the pump to clear any air then leaves the pump off until cranking revs are detected. If the engine stops or stalls the pump goes off.
I will use this circuit to also control the low pressure pumps.

The GM motorsport ECU operates pretty much the same as the others already mentioned, primer/crank-pulse etc. I think it also includes a switchable low-oil pressure protection feature too. You should have plenty to play with/include with your install. Enjoy.
