i was supposed to be attempting it this year and plans were set to get the car ready for brunters for spring but broken leg has put me behind so maybe another time.
I spoke to Luckyp about the requirements a few weeks back as my car has the g50/52 box which allows possible 211mph but i only have 565hp... the idea was to run without the wing but use the nos kit i have lying arround for the extra bhp if i need it..Pete managed 188 with the higher gearing i think on the flat and hes running simular engine to mine. Lambos run just over 200 with 500hp but i think are a bit slicker in aero.
650 is the requirement but i think brunters is a bit down hill and i was going to tape the gaps, remove the wiper arm and do a bit of aero adjustments to help and hoping i might get there... will have to see another time.shame

I'm considering running the Mojave Mile in SoCal early March. G50/52 is geared for 206mph @ 6,000 rpm rev limiter. I have 600HP and I'm a little bit lighter overall due to using an aluminium block. I still think I'll struggle to hit the 200 mark, but interested to see where the car (or my bottle) will get me through the traps at a mile.

Never managed to actually do the double ton tho... as mentioned to do this legally (bear in mine doing over 150mph is a jail offence) you need 650bhp+ so that you can get to it withing the 1.5mile stretch of brunters... acceleration really starts to slow down at 170mph!
at brunters I got to officially measured 186mph still accelerating hard just ran out of track (its only 1.5miles long)... i tried taking the rear wing off and the front splitter removed itself but it didnt make any difference (accept to braking!!!)... admitedly I had a single plane wing on my canam tho.
have done slightly more in unauthorised circumstances but the less said about that the better... car had around 500bhp and was geared for 212mph @ 7000rpm (engine produced power well beyond 7000rpm).

I'd like give it a try sometime this year. My Can-Am is geared for 225mph@ 6,600rpm. I hope to have my new cylinder heads fitted in March and then I'll be fitting the smallest pulley I can on my ProCharger. A little re-mapping will be needed but power will be plenty enough to hit 200mph, 700+bhp. Thing is I will be doing it with no roof so it might get a little windy and I'm not sure if my balls are going to be big enough for the job, but I'll give it a go!

I've got video evidence of 200 on the clock at Vmax....radar trap didn't agree, got the speedo checked a month later and found that the speedo was accurate to +/- 2% so could have been 196. So maybe I'm not a true double tonner but I'm happy I did it. Due to the long top gear it was still pulling well tho, but stopping at the Vmax track can be a bit scary at first.
Why does the Ultima need so much hp to hit the double ton?
A TVR Cerbera with "only" 400hp will hit 195mph (according to sat-nav on autobahn).
Are the aerodynamics of an Ultima so aggressive that it has to muscle it's way to 200mph with massive grunt? If it needs the wings to keep it on the ground at high speed then surely without the wing it should breeze up to the double ton?
Perhaps someone with more knowledge of such things would like to explain.

mainly because the as horespowers are yank figures and measured on very special dynosA TVR Cerbera with "only" 400hp will hit 195mph (according to sat-nav on autobahn).

Available space is the main reason. I'm not sure how much BHP would be needed but most of the guys on here who have come close would probably say the car was still pulling when they had to abort. Given an Autobahn (several miles) and the right gearing it may not be as high as 600bhp?A TVR Cerbera with "only" 400hp will hit 195mph (according to sat-nav on autobahn).

I know all 3 cars that have achieved it had way over 600. Factory is 720 claimed, Jeff's is over 1,000 and G-mans car was 680. I know many cars will hit their limiters if only running std gearing.

Javalin Trackdays do mile timings at Woodbridge base which has a 2 mile straight and the Ultimas I have seen there manage about 170mph at the end of the mile. If you could keep your foot in for a mile and a half would that be sufficient to hit 200 (with correct gearing)?
Probably not. If you are doing 170mph at 1 mile you will cover the next 1/2 mile in about what 11 or 12 seconds? You will not accelerate from 170 to 200mph in 11 or 12 seconds. That would require pulling 2-3mph every second. As Andy said, the rate of acceleration drops off above 170mph. You really need an awful lot of space to achieve 200mph or very big BHP to do it quickly enough/in a short enough distance.I've never done a Vmax or had the car to shoot at 200mph. All I know is to hit the maximum in my old car in France took a bloody long stretch of clear road!!!! About 400bhp with no wing.
