HI there everyone, I recieved my GTR kit in November 09 and am about 75% through the build, its been good and i am enjoying it. I have been reading your posts on the forum and have found them interesting and very useful. I live in Norfolk and have seen an orange Ultima which i assume is Tango's, guess what colour mine is ! I hope to be able to get to some of the meets you are planning this year, all being well.
Can anyone please tell me if it is necessary to run a fuel surge system when using the LS7, thanks.
Keep up the good work. Keith.

Two ways to look at the fuel system. I favor the simplest possible. I use a plate suspended below the frame rails on rubber isolators, next to the gas tank on the right side. The Plate sets 1/2 inch below the rails this makes the feed to the pressure pump work on gravity. I also ditch all the split tank design and run a 1 inch transfer tube between the tanks and treat it as one tank. the fuel goes to a y from both tanks to the pump then the filter (yes I know thats backwards I have my reasons) then the fuel goes to a second y which splits the fuel between the two fuel rails out of the rails to a central pressure regulator with the excess fuel going back to the closest tank. Many people have stated that nothing short of multiple feeds with multiple pumps and surge tanks and swirl pots will work. I disagree, I have had the Ultima out in 95 degree weather at california motor speedway on the roval and run mutiple 20 minute sessions and looked at the data off the motec and the fuel pressure is 42 lbs plus or minus 1/2 lb. I have also had the car in 115 degree heat in Palmdale without an issue. One big pressure pump, one filter, one transfer line, one fuel gauge sender, no left tank right tank switch. Simple just like me. Lee

As you say this will work. Some observations
To achieve the large crossover will involve welding a larger fitting into each tank which may not be viable if the car is well on in the build.
Without the use of a swirl pot could result in surge issues when low on fuel. In a corner fuel could drain from a tank leaving its pickup in air. As soon as that happens you will loose fuel pressure.
Lee...You mention only running one filter. Most pump manufacturers state you should run a coarse filter before the pump (to protect it) and a fine filter after.

I run the factory fuel surge system in my LS7 installation - see picture. There is a low-pressure fuel pump, mounted on the lower chassis rail and the tank itself mounted on the top round chassis rail. The fuel surge tank kit is designed to work in conjunction with the Ultima supplied LS engined fuel system - if you have gone your own way with your fuel system, it may not work. I felt that the pump could get a bit hot because of it's location, so I made a cover for it with heat-wrap, and I have similarly wrapped the surge tank with heat-wrap.
Is it neccessary ? My philosophy is that I don't spoil the ship for a ha'penny of tar - plus, you would struggle to fit it after the engine is installed.
I suggest you speak to Richard at the factory, and he will be able to tell you more.
Good luck with your build !
Regards
Wow. I picked my kit up in November and I am probably only 5% of the way through. It was always going to be a longish build for me but to be 75% completed in 3 and a bit months is doing very well. Congratulations.
I have done virtually nothing for 3 weeks but hope to do a bit this weekend.
I will watch the replies to the fuel supply question as it something I will have to sort at some point in time.
