Had a quote for my GTR when I get it on the road.
Under £600 fully comp with a £500 excess and 3,000 miles a year which I thought was pretty good.

Mind you, I will be 50 next year, perhaps that has something to do with it?

That's with a cat 2 alarm, which is what I am going for.

After all it will be locked in my garage 360 days of the year and I also have a CCTV and recorder.

Try Adrian Flux, he has offices not far away from the factory and insures a quite a few Nobles. I had a quote for £785 with 5000 miles (48 yrs). Know that 5000 miles clocks up in about three months. His unlimited was about £1200. Plus he was really easy to deal with. I had a LHD, which made all the other brokers choke on the phone.

My brother has his LHD Camaro insured through Adrian Flux. They seemed to be one of only a few places that would even consider insuring a LHD high performance car in the UK. Seemed quite helpful.

MSM used to be touted as the best place for most UK Ultima owners. Don't know if they are still the best option.

Cat 1 Alarm/immobiliser with certified install seems to be the recommended option of most insurers I've tried.

I tried Adrian Flux - they weren't interested in insuring my Ultima because of its value. Not sure what their threshold is but mine was insured at a value of £50,000 (brand new highish spec GTR).

I tried quite a few of the kit car specialists with the same result. The only quote I got was with MSM at around £700 for 5,000 miles.

Most insurers were abrupt and sent me packing after 2 telephone minutes -- an American, with an American accent, choosing to live wiht what we all know is a notoriously demanding UK spouse, LHD GTR (in yellow at that!) and driving quite a bit "overthere" on "that" continent. Well what did I expect?

There was a man at Adrian Flux whom spoke calmly and I felt I did not have to stretch the truth by saying "the steering thing-a-ma-jig is more in the middle".

Male, 48 years, factory built GTR, registered late 2003, LHD, CAT-1 imobiliser, 6300cc engine.

£785pa. £500 deductible, value £50,000 (paid £60+), but only 5000 miles. The 8,000 and unlimited options were too much at 1250 and 2600 respectively. Trust me, you will need the 8000 miles at minimum.

I did not have or even understand what a "no claims" bonus or "no claims" transfer was. I did mention that we refueled the Vulcan bombers on the way to their Falkland targets and I hoped that was enough.

Footman James was also very good and came in with the next best quote, but barfed when the LHD was mentioned. Recommend you try them.

Anyone here less than 40 years old with an insured ultima?

I'm currently 33 and primarily looking at a longterm build 2-3 years (budget and time constraints).

I like Adrian Flux and have been with them for years which helps I suppose. One thing to always remember is your postcode as this can be the killer. Having a garage is probably pretty standard for Ultima owners but never the less takes loads off the premium.

[Just stating the obvious!]

Dave.

PS Ultima Robert: Have you tried getting UK life insurance? Now that would be fun given you drive/drove a fuel tanker with built in flame throwers!

I'm moving to a semi-detached with a wide garage soon. I had a look at the newer build houses with detached double garages with doors wide enough to get cars built in the 1940's through. Needless to say I thought they were crap. The new houses in the UK have nice presentation but no substance (IMHO).

I remember trying to get quotes for a yamahonduki bike a while ago and the insurers insisted on an attached brick built garage. Is this a requirement for the insurers of Ultimas? is it cheaper if it is an attached garage or don't they care?

I'm more interested in the build than immediate purchase. Do these companies supply build insurance which changes to full insurance later?

I've never been asked by an insurer whether the garage is attached or not, just whether the car is garaged.

Yes, options vary between insurers, for some you need to switch to a different policy once the car's on the road.

I'm 34 (just) and have the car in a seperate workshop from my house address.

No problems with insurance.

I think the organised theft of superbikes makes insurers fidgety. Questionable sentencing by judges(i.e. community service - ) and bikers bending the truth slightly (i.e. tin box=garage) makes it all add up.

Fortunately there seems to be no market for "borrowed" ultima parts to make it worth the risk for thieving scumbags.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone still in their 20s when they first got insured? If so, what's the damage?

Me ... well just.

Paid just under a grand although I suspect my postcode doesn't do me that many favours, medium to high risk so I am told. Limited mileage ... 3000 off the top of my head, £100 extra for 5k.

Things that went in my favour included clean licence, plenty of NCB and history of reasonably quick motors.

Cheers

Rich

guys, anyone had dealings with a company called Aon Insurance. Talking with a friend this morning who has a 911 amongst others, he says they dont require any no claims because they are specialist insurance. He said his insurance was sub £500 full comp for all four cars(all Porsche), he is early thirties but lives in fairly quiet part of south leics.
