Hi guys

I have two questions.

First of all, I have a BBK 4.2 V8 engine in my garage ready and waiting to go into something. I scrapped my previous project so no longer need the engine. Where is the best place to sell this engine? I have put it up on PH already in the ultima section.

Q2, if it doesnt sell, I want to use it in a kit car of some sort. I am fairly comfortable with mounting it, but the wiring and getting it running is a bit more complicated. Since these engines are quite popular with you ultima guys, is there any good resources on the net regarding using these engines, removing unnecessary bits of the engine, gear boxes to use, tuning etc

Cheers
Amit

Where do I find him!

I want to know..

Which gearbox.

How much of the engine can be stripped off.. eg PAS, AC pump and how (what do I do with the shaft couplings.. just leave them spinning) how to remove the air pump system and do I really need the eleventy million lamba sensors lol (4 in reality)

Also with regards to wiring, what is the minimal wiring config.. how much can I junk.

With regards to cooling.. do I really need 3 rads that the original car has? 1 main plus 2 small aux units.

Can I retain the VVT?

What are the tuning options..

etc..

Basically need a step by step guide to firing up the engine and configuring it.

Also looking at that pic, he has used TBs. Does that mean he has also used an aftermarket ECU?

As Jonny 5 once said "need input. more input"

There are a few styles of Audi Engine - Basically, you have:

- the earlier ones with the belt drive on the front (like ABZ) - this is what HIlly used.
- the newer ones with chain drive on the rear, and multiport injection (like BBK)
- the newest one, as above but with FSI.

Good info here >>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_discontinued_Volkswagen_Group_petrol_engines

Apparently the FSI is very difficult to get running properly outside of an Audi. There is no aftermarket ECU that will run FSI, so you must use the stock ECU. I spoke to some guys that rekon the OEM ECU will run outside of the car, but it will take some work.

Ive spoken to MOTEC, they are working on a new ECU that will run FSI, but do not have a release date yet.

KMS were offering an FSI engine, with the FSI holes plugged, the manifold drilled for new injectors, and a standalone ECU. I am forging ahead on this route anyway, if it turns out to be too difficult I will ditch the FSI and do what KMS were suggesting.

I bought my engine from an Audi dealer in Germany http://myworld.ebay.de/der-audi-zentrum-essen-shop They have a few VERY low milage FSI units for sale.

Thanks crafty.

Lots of good info which I will have a look through.

I have a bbk engine so looks like it should be easier to get working. You should of bought my engine smile

I have two oem ecus and looms for the engine plus the entire car loom. It's going to be fun working with all that!

The other question is what to do about the drive by wire.
