Picture of Roll Cage Brace Bars Requested

I have been digging through build CD pics and build diary sites, but have come up short. I am looking for a couple of decent pictures of the attach points for the "roll cage brace bars" - that go from the mufflers up to the rear cabin hoop. Pics of the attach at the back and at the cabin hoop are appreciated.

For those interested, the reason for the question is that I have an early FIA frame, and the welded braces didn't clear the headers. Those have been cut off, and as I don't require FIA compliance was going to revert to the removeable style brace, but will now need to replicate the attach points that were not originally built into my frame.

just ask the factory for a couple of photos... they will always try and help

I didn't figure I would hear anything from the factory until Monday, but thought someone here might have something that would allow me to make progress over the weekend. Haven't had a need to bug them much yet, are they usually around and responsive on the weekend?

Both from the USA website.

If you are going to fabricate a new brace you should go further back on the lower chassis rail to allow an additional x brace above the motor.

Thanks for the reply Ken. Afraid I'm having trouble following though. Do you mean that I should go further back than was done for the FIA setup, and take it back to the "standard" location in front of the shock mount, or should I do something different stiill than the "standard" removable brace install? To my untrained eye the pictures you linked to looked like the typical Ultima setup. Is there a modification there that I'm missing?

Brings up a good point though as well. As long as I am going to be in there doing some frame work - anything else I should be looking at? Have already decided that I should box in the A-arm mounting flanges as discussed in Not bendy wishbones BUT.... What else?

Weld a plate over the parallel roof bars in the cab.

Then hole-saw 2" holes in it to lighten it...

Then put a second pair of braces upto the front shock towers going back to the front bulkhead....



I put a small tube front to back in the centre then attached them to that, means you only have to cut a small round semi circle out of the Front bulk head section of the F/G..

Just these 2 things help the Torsional rigidity by a large factor...

I do have a standard chassis, that is what the links are for. When I mentioned moving the lower mounting points backward I meant to the rear of the car. This would allow more room for an X brace above the motor as Jay Esterer did with his car. It would also make the resulting triangle larger.

I have the standard springs and Intrax shocks and thus far haven't felt that the car was flexible enough to warrant further bracing. The factory road springs are headed my way however and I've already got Nylatron suspension bushings from Rosen Racing ready to go in.

Have seen Jay's car and the engine is very low in the chassis, which is why he can get the X brace in. If you move the bars back so there angle is lower then you might not be able to close the clip... Plus that last part of the chassis adds no real structure to the rigidity, we have chopped that section of on a few cars now as it really only holds the clip and gearbox.

It should clear the clip if you move the mount point back as far as possible on the side tube that is behind the suspension mounting points for the rear, upper a-arm. On my car this would allow an x brace. I have no idea what this would do for the chassis, the standard chassis is fine for me.
