Removing the Dash - How hard?

I’ve got to do a bunch of tidying up and rewiring under the dash.

Does any one know how difficult is to remove the dash and replace it?

The dash is an integral part of the body tub so is not removable.

It's upside down in the footwell for any work behind the dash. Take sandwiches with you as you will be there some time.

On a serious note, make sure you have your mobile with you. It is possible to get yourself quite well stuck under there and you may need to call for assistance.

I had a complete interior fitted the other week. Paid through the arse for it too.
Only to rip it out the other night with my dash. Ive had a complete custom dash install made. ALso it has made life easier in many areas, depends how much trouble and cost you want to go for.

ive just done a load of work on mine and i found it 10 times easier once id removed the seats... takes 10 mins and saves your back and gives room to put a few tools..

also you can hoover the carpet while its out

So if you had a removable dash binnacle and also the main dash top could unbolt from the car you'd be happier then....... OK duly Noted....

I suppose there is nothing to stop you making a removable dash that fits over the existing dash.

I would not want to remove any more of the existing dash than you had to as it will be providing structural rigidity to the body. Some of this could be overcome by bolting the remains of the existing dash to the chassis tube running across under the dash.

Would make building and finishing the dash much easier with it on the bench. All wired up with a gurt multi-connector on the end. Beginning to like this the more I think about it.

Ive been looking at re organising my dash and numerous emails to Lucky P and others for ideas. I have loads of photos of all the dashes posted all saved for ideas.

Id love to fill in all the gauge holes and the big hole of the central instruments pod and start again, but removing the windscreen sounded like an expensive excersise, along with recovering etc etc.

But if someone made a new dash that fits over the exceisting dash and fitted nicely against the winscreen id be interested.

I wanted to copy LuckyP dash as I felt the guages and switches were positioned very nicely and did not look kit car ish(well done Pete...... ....... I was also going to use the orginal instruments like Pete too!!!!!!!

Could you post a link to the dash photo's?
I am keen to mod the standard dash aswell.
