Just taxed my Ultima for another year, but had a slight problem at the Post Office. I registered my car in December 2001, and the registration docs say new at first registration. (so less than 3 years old and shouldn't require an MOT)

However the form for the tax disc said that I needed to provide an "appropriate MOT certificate". I took my registration documents along. Sure enough the old biddy behind the counter asked to see my MOT certificate, which I don't have.

I eventually managed to convince her that an "appopriate" certificate was none at all as I had my registration documents showing the car was younger than three years old.

Last years renewal made no mention of an MOT certificate.

Anybody else had this problem, or know why the DVLA might be asking for a test certificate?

I was under the impression that cars put on the road via an SVA test needed to have an MOT every year from the end of the first year on the road ?

If it's registeed as a new car on a new plate then you don't need an MOT for 3 years (it's treated exactly the same as a new production car). If you pass SVA but get a Q plate then it's 1 year.

I just taxed mine and was asked the same question. However the "old biddy" as you mention, looked at the "03"plate and said "that's a little strange" and let it go. No probs

I think this is just part of the "UK govmt admin system" My spyder has had 3 MOTs now, and was one of the first ultimas to have an SVA, but the tax form didnt ask for an MOT until 3 years old. BUT a strange thing is my V5 says ULTIMA KIT SPYDER. I notice some just say Ultima or Ultima GTR. I guess I could ask them to remove the word "kit" from the name?

I imported my Alpina B10 but when I got the log book back DVLA had written the make and model all one one line and then added BMW for good measure. I wrote to them, and suggested how I thought it should look and within 10 days they sent me a perfect document - one happy camper!
