Hi folks, my car while almost finished for german road registration is still suffering air leaks in the clutch system. We have now exchanged the take cylinder
but still the system is not deengaging the clutch from time to time. Reports are that once the pedal fell through and came back operating after some pumping.
I have the faint idea that the main cylinder might have a leak. Has anybody had a similar problem ?
What make is the clutch main cylinder ?

thanks

Still sounds like an air bubble moving around to me. Reports say that these are a nighmare to clear properly.
One report suggested removing the slave cylinder from its mountings and raising it as high as poss, while rotating the slave so the nipple is at top position, then with 2 friends help (one to pump, one to keep the reservoir topped up), go through the bleeding process again....that is provided you don't go so mad as to have the cylinder piston fly out the end!

When i had this problem years ago, I flushed a heck of a lot of fluid through before all was ok. Whilst all closed - pressed fairly hard on the pedal - held down, released the nipple, tightened nipple immediately after fluid stopped flowing, lifted pedal slowly whilst making sure reservoir topped up, then repeated until almost a whole reservoir-worth of fluid when through. Worked every time for me!

But then you probably know all this!

A test for internal problems in the master cylinder is to press the clutch with engine running an select first gear. Then sit and wait to see if the clutch gradually engages and the car starts moving even though you still have your foot on the clutch. If the car moves it has to be a seal failure inside the master cylinder.

thanks steve, unfortunately the leak seems to be very small and I think we will change the master cylinder and see if that fixes the issue.

Hi Spatz

I had a similar problem with mine. I could actually drive the car for around 30 minutes or so and then the clutch would be become less and less useable until all i could get was 3rd.

Replaced the master cylinder this weekend and all problems seem to have been resolved.

spatz is your beeding system pumping the oil around quickly or slowly?

I have 2 systems one doing it slow and one doing it quickly.
I do not use the slow system anymore because it gave problems you discribe.
It does not lake the air with the oil, it stays in palce.
