Had a great day at Bruntingthorpe yesterday and hit some great speeds biglaugh Sadly in the late afternoon, my speedo started flickering, then jumping about randomly and eventually died completely cry

This looks terminal, so I guess I have to fit a new one. The question is, how do I go about getting the new one to read the same mileage as the old one coming out? I guess I must do this or something similar for MOT/log book purposes, but I also want to keep it a correct record.

Thanks, Andy

Highly unlikely to be the actual speedo more likely to be sensor loose/broken or wiring.

As said, more likely to be the sensor.

If it is the speedo then the new one should not be tampered with just fitted. Keep the figures in your records so you can pass the info to any new owner. I would write the old speedo reading on the receipt for the replacement.

Hi Andy

Ive got a spare speedo and a spare sender, if you want i will post them to you so you can check which part is actually faulty, i suspect a wiring problem. Put a multi meter on the signal wire at the speedo end to see if a signal is being transmitted, i will check the colour of the wire for you tomorrow

Thanks for replies. I'll have a rummage at the sender/connection end at the weekend and hope it's as simple as reconnecting the wire! Kyle, I've dropped you an email on another matter as well, when you have a couple of minutes.
Thanks andy

Sorry, forgot to put on last post -

I need to get my MOT done in the next few weeks, will I need the speedo to be working when it's done or will they not check this?

Thanks again.

Had mine MOT'd a couple of months back with no working speedo, not checked for MOT.

Had a car MOT'd yesterday that doesn't have a speedo fitted.
