Hi ......200 miles in and am now getting to grips with the GTR....absolutely fantastic.....but I have a little problem.

During the rebuild I managed to strip the thread in the plastic eye that is rivetted to the hinge and screws in the end of the door gas strut. I redrilled the remaining plastic material and have had no problems to date. This morning however as i closed the door it broke again, so now needs to be replaced. The question(s).....is this a weak point or have i been unlucky. can i repair the hinge (drill out the rivet and replace the eye)....can I get a metal part as a replacement....or is the best option to just buy a replacement hinge from the factory.

Thanks

Stu

Stu the part you need is sold by Mc Master Carr in the U.S. Upgrading this piece has been discussed on the fourm before and the Factory stepped in and reminded us to think about what would give next, after the plastic piece and they were absoultley correct. Everything that might break if the plastic peice didn't gets real exspensive. My suggestion is to see if you can order them from Mc Master Carr into the U.K. directly. Order 20 they are cheap and sell them off to cover the shipping. If that does not work P.M. me and I will buy some and ship them over but you need to order a substancail amount to make it worth the shipping. Anyone that owns a Ultima should have a couple of these pieces in thier kit. You will break them sooner or later. Lee

Yes you can drill out the pin and replace the eye. The hinge does not come with the eye/strut attached. (At least it didn't when I built my car)

Hi Lee,

Do you have a part number for that? I don't need any at the moment, but it would good to have as a point of reference. Thanks!
