Thanks Dom. Don't wish to hijack but all is well thanks and I am slowly moving in the right direction (although that is apparently what got me into trouble in the first place hehe)

Still too bloody noisy don't know what to do now! I now have massive silencer across the back but still 102.5 db. I am wondering if it's worth detuning the engine a bit standard cam, have it mapped to quiet setting
Help please!
Hi Wayne you got any ideas ! Pop in and see me

Hi Adam

Gutted for you mate....

A big cam ie duration does make a big difference also it will lower your max revs as well!!!

Im sure you could find that 5db in the cam, but some bloody big restrictors up the pipes somewhere?

I know they check the tacho output on your dash at the omissions stage but isnt the noise test outside?

Do they recheck tacho if only retesting noise.?

Do you have the standard Ultima rev counter? The unscrupulous owner could switch it to 6 cylinder to artificially increase the apparent RPM, so you would be performing the noise test at a lower RPM.

I failed the SVA noise test by 3dB, and got a pass result by "repacking".

Just to check a most basic fact - you are doing the test at 3/4 max power - not 3/4 max revs?

At the last VOSA test I had done they used a sound measuring box that also counted the exhaust pulses and displayed the revs having been set to the number of cylinders.

I'm not sure how much noise is exhaust noise and how much is mechanical engine noise.
He checked my rev counter to test how acurate the reading was, but that was only done to try and help me find a way of getting a lower reading.
The guy up the test centre was as helpful as he could be, offered to test it in a different place.
I really don't know what to do now

How about an extra silencer across the back of the car fitted on or in place of the tail pipes.
Will need to be inside the rear clip or the guy will deem it as not being a permanent feature.

I am waiting to hear back from the company who made the exhaust, they said it was 98.5 db when I picked the car up from them.
Think I'm going to buy a noise meter Monday and test it

Hello Adam, sorry to hear of your woes but I do commiserate and understand completely having suffered similar myself.
One thing that may be worth trying are a part from Summit that is a perforated cone that fits in the system just after the collector, they made a fair difference on my system, other than that all I can recommend is a longer system but that doesn't really help much at this stage of the game I know. One last thing; do you have a balance pipe between banks post collector?
