Buying second hand?
Discussion
My personal opinion is that with the Ultima, you get what you see. Pretty much.
Check for damage to body work, the overall feel of the car. How the engine/gearbox sounds.
There has been a lot of talk on here wether factory spec is best or not. I dont see that as an issue as it is down to personal taste. A non factory spec car is put together as well as a factory spec car, just with different parts. It's not like the factory give a 5 year warranty that you invalidate.
I think it is all pretty much common sense on these cars. I haven't heard of any particular inherent problems. That said the red cars apparently have black swirls that appear in the gelcoat. Had my red bodywork for 4 years now and dont have any, perhaps that is something in the earlier gelcoat.
As with buying a 'normal' car, check it all works and if not why not - it may be that a particular switch, gauge is no longer used and rather than leave a big hole the switch has been left in.
Just my '2 penneth'
