I know there is always a bunch of guys reading in this forum and try to find arguments whether to buy a regular car or
an Ultima. I did quite some driving in my orange beast the last week and yesterday night we decided to have a comfortable
drive to the restaurant in the R8 with the 4,2 liter engine.
What a dissappointment, the power of the car felt now like a Vauxhall compared to a Porker and it clearly tells me that you
get used very quickly to the power the Ultima is offering and once you have experienced it has hard to go back.
Especiall in 3rd or 4th gear the torque of the Ultima is pushing hard in lower revs and when you floor the R8 you are still wondering
WHEN DOES IT START ?

So there you are, I warned you about that in advance. Once you`ve experienced the power of an Ultima it`s impossible to find real driving pleasure in any other car again - must be a curse...
Apart from that the R8 V8 is said to be the slowest supercar ever built - how about the V10 to soothe the pain just a little?

would not put the R8 in the supercar league, it is a very good looking car and I actually like it a lot for what it is.
I have now my orange toy, now time to go on a track and find the limits of the car, better than finding them on the road.

Should have bought the V10! However the V10 feels slower than a porsche turbo but it is all about power delivery. I have forgotten how an ultima feels as I spend my life sitting in the engine bay fitting bits for the new engine!

Good to hear Spatz!

Its not a supercar its just a fast TT, lets face it if Audi made it as quick as an Ultima without all the esp, abs, traction this traction that most of them would be in hedges now. I think major manufacturers have to build a large amount of health and safety into their products?

How does the lovely Aston compare?

bought the R8 when the V10 was not available and now the prices are down so i decided to kepp it.
my wife is driving the aston as a daily driver and today she had her first ultima drive.
BIG SMILE !
The Aston is definetely much closer to the ultima then to the R8,
and yes i agree the audi is made to be safe and driveable by average customers.
You can see what happens with the murcis and gallardos, they are killing a lot of people who think flooring is all you need to do......I am pretty sure if ultimas would not be built by enthusiasts who already have a history with fast cars, there would be many deadly accidents too.

The V10 is a lot more skitish than the v8 or the 997tt. Still very safe with all the electrics trying to control physics but it is trying to catch you out all the time!

Great fun but a 997tt in the wet would walk away from you in the audi. Ultima is massively quicker in the right conditions but in the wet it is a bit of a challenge!

a tuned Impreza would be quicker than both of them in those conditions

put them next to each other on dry drag strip and its bye bye R8, imagine what a four wheel drive Ultima would go like with all that esp, abs rubbish?

Hi all have to add since iv started to get used to my ultima been taking a few chums for err ?? joy rides heheand they ( and a couple are use to serious drag cars ) have all said " Iv not been any thing faster " the drag boys all comment on how the acceleration at 120 plus mark still feels as strong as between the 50 to 70 range , yep getting the impression the Ultima is well well close to being the ultimate ( yep i know that sounds corny )bow
