............but last week whilst doing a charity track day at Ford Dunton giving people rides around the track, I was stop/starting the engine and generally hanging around with the car/engine (and me come to that) getting hot and one time that I started the engine (which took quite a few turns to start) it blew the red bung covering the brake booster vacuum pipe off! Luckily I heard it sucking a lot of air and pulled over to find out what had happened. The red bung was very hot and pliable and a loose fit over the pipe…..I tie wrapped it on and alls been ok but thought I would give the LS engine people the heads up.

Seems like you had a backfire through the inlet manifold. Was the battery losing cranking power and cranking the engine slowly? At idling speeds your fans may have been draining power for an extended period.

Don't remember any loss in cranking power, although there was a lot of stopping and starting......Could be the reason I guess....

That rubberised plastic blank is probably just meant for protection during crating/prior install Graham.
I'll guess its just lost grip due to constant heating/cooling over time and actually blew off as you switched the engine off. It being missing during start might explain the unusual extra cranking as the ecu compensated for the large hole in the inlet!

That’s more likely.......It was really just a heads up to anyone leaving the red bung on.....best tie wrap it, or replace it with a more substantial cover, which is what I plan to do.

I notice I also have a small outlet sticking out with a red bung and right next to it though is a much BIGGER outlet and red bung at right angles, and on mine the rubber/ plastic looks perished!

Does anyone know what does what? The small I presume is the vacuum, so what is the bigger outlet? I did ask before with piccys but no-one seemed sure!

What I want to do is to run my clutch-assist vacuum off one of these, but don't know which one?

cheers

Hi Keith
That big red bung is the one I was talking about and have temp cable tied, it's the brake booster. If you are going to fit a servo then this is where the pipe would connect to......
