Hi

I wondered if anyone with a rolling ultima can tell me the ground clearance.

I am buying a car lift that requires at least 140mm clearance.....

Any help much appreciated....

can you not lower the concrete floor level and set the lift into the floor so that you have a direct drive on surface?

If the lift is for storage, I'd assume this might be an issue for the car going underneath?

Is the car lift for working on the car or storage above another car?

The factory settings are 110mm under the front axle line and 160mm rear.

You just need to form a wooden false floor around the lift arms. The panels can then be removed and stacked in a corner when not required.

Like Steve, I just use wooden ramps that I move as required ...

Hi

Thanks for all the replies....

It is for working on, not storage.

I guess that I will have to make ramps...

Hmmn!

This scuppers my plans somewhat.

I was planning on buying this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

But am now not so sure...

I am also thinking of this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUPERB-BRAND-NEW-RAMP-2-POST...

(Phew that is a long url!)

The first is an under car lift, that lifts to about 1.2m. Great for working on the car because everything can be got to, without having posts in the way.
The second is a two post car lift, which is great, but I am a bit worried about the posts always being on the way...

What do you think?

For the 1st, I will have to make some ramps or something to get the car up to a height that it will fit under.

So, what are your experiences and opinions?

Hi,

A group buy was kicked around here - looked like it would be cheaper than buying from ebay provided we get enough together.

I put a 6" dropped floor in my Shop for just such a lift...

i have a hydraulic lift like this, a bit lower but very similar. Because i have a small slope at the lip of my garage the car was forever catching it before the back wheels came up level.

Simple answer was a couple of scaffold boards down each side just to raise the car by an inch and a half, problem sorted. Not the most professional fix but it only cost me a couple of beers to get them delivered and no problems since.

Moral - dont spend a couple of hundred quid more to get a slimmer lift when a couple of bits of wood will do.

I have a two post lift in my garage. That's were my GTR was built and I have to say I have a great deal of admiration for those of you that have had to build the cars on a stand. The two post lift made everything I did easier. Now when I drive the car, it usually goes back on the lift for a good look at all the mechanical bits and a good cleaning. I can not tell you how much easier life with one of these cars with a lift is. If you have the room do it. Lee

The two poster is the best solution but you will have the hassle / worry of ground anchoring the posts.
The first lift just needs a firm surface to sit on.

Hi

On a two post lift, what about getting to the sides of the car? Do the posts get in the way much?

Gareth: the posts are not much of a problem. Certainly that's helped by the fact that the doors open up instead of out. Lee
