Hi

I have purchased a clutch servo and am left wondering where I will put it....

How much space is aailable in the compartment between the front of the side pods and the body bit that forms the back of the wheel arch?

I can see on the built manual that you can have a storage compartment here, but will I have the space to fit the servo?

Thanx in advance.

Gareth

Use the original Ford Brakes Servo mount if you want. Sits just in front of the Luggage container.
But I will say I fitted a Servo to my GT40, but removed it as on release the bight point was never in the same place. I hated it more than the stiff pedal. The best way to really fix this is to go multi plate clutch, then you get a much lighter pedal on a std Ultima chassis. You can redesign the pedals to get a higher pedal ratio... But even Porsche fitted a Hydromatic system on there slave cylinders on there later Turbo cars, to get over the high Torque single plate pressure clutches they fitted...

Hi Clive

Thanks for the info...

you've got me worried....

I don't want to go through mounting all of this and adding the extra weight etc, if it is going to make the clutch action random, can;t have that!

Anyone else got any experience with the a clutch servo?

Gareth,

I tried out Robs car before he sold it and that was running a clutch servo. I found it perfectly fine!
I also have got a MGB servo after talking with the AP boys at the factory who kindly specced the servo for me, and advised where to get it from.

I easily mounted it right at the back of the car on a 3 mm ally plate, between the back-end of the gearbox and the frame on the left (from the rear of the car). Plenty of room! If I don't like it, it will be very easy to by-pass and reconnect direct to the slave.

cheers

Keith

I've got Robm3's car and the servo works fine. It is still a fairly heavy clutch so god knows what they are like in stop-start traffic without one.

Can you give me details of the servo you were recommend, I've been driving my car to work and the traffic can be quite bad , if I don't fit a servo soon I'll end up walking in circles!!

Whilst nothing to do with servos my recent clutch experience may be of interest.

AP were asked to spec a clutch that would have smooth driveability and light pedal weight. What they came up with is the clutch from the Ford GT road car which is a twin plate organic.

When used with the AP pedal box the action is smooth and easy - just like a normal car clutch..biggrin .. this from somebody who is famously wimpish and who could barely walk the day after driving my first sbc/standard clutch car......

My only concern is that it may be imperial thread. Not to much of an issue as you will need to make up pipes anyway. Would suggest you mount it in the engine bay to reduce the vacuum pipe length.
