Has anyone owned/driven both a gd t70 and a GTR?
Discussion
I'm not looking at starting any type of my car is better than yours or handbag throwing
I'm planning ahead on my next build and would like opinions on how they compare? I like the t70 with the screen and a hardtop is on the way. You dont see as many around and i'm not sure why!?
As a curve ball i'm also looking at a cobra kit with hard top!

You don't seem to "want" an Ultima enough so go with one of the others.
don't be so defensive, although I haven't driven a GDT70, the GD factory is different to the Ultima factory but aims for similar stats. No harm in asking for comparisons between two outwardly different beasties but inwardly, cars that aim for staggering figures. Both ideas work, both create tribes, when I sold my GD cobra, I got emails to ask what I was doing, on PHultima, you get posts to suggest "there can be only one" Admittedly I don't own an Ultima, but I find many posts and posters here that are helpful to me in my build. I do wonder sometimes at the speed at which new-comers to this specific forum are often shown the door.
There aren't that many mid-engined cars like Ultima's around, and if a person is building a scratch built design, or any other that shares basic similarities with the Ultima, considering the Ultima has such a massive following, I would hope that some sharing of experience, or problem solving would be mutually benefitial? Equally, someone asking for feedback on ownership or build experiences etc could be accomodated here without the need to compare C*ck sizes.
If it wasn't for this forum, I wouldn't have found Brady Fabrication, who went on to redesign and fabricate my front suspension. Good job someone didn't tell me to stick it cuz I don't have an Ultima.
If I'm wrong, I'll get my coat...............

It's not a case of showing someone the door.
I fully agree with the comment about not wanting it enough.
It's not a daily driver.
Not a porsche.
Not a car you can just jump in a pop down the shops.
Every trip is an event
Every trip an adventure.
As such many will find ownership to be less than perfect hense the comment
about really wanting one.

I'm not sure that the OP had got that far Steve? There was no mention of trips to the shops etc. Just a request for experiences of the T70 and Ultima. Where does he indicate that he doesn't want on enough? Surely not the mention of Hard Tops? Am I missing something? I am of course, exceedingly drunk right now. Tigers!
Obviously I don't want any of the above yet! When I've decided what I want that'll be the car I want. Doing research on all cars doesn't hurt anyone surely? I really do like the Ultima and i'm just considering all offerings.
I'd like to know if dynamically they're similar? Build costs seem to be the same, Maybe slightly cheaper for the t70.

I've not built either so am probably not equiped to give an experienced based answer, however I have looked at building a T70 (currently own a GD Cob) and that comes in at 40ish but could easily hit 50-55 if you went mad, my take from reading on this forum is that the Ult generally comes in at 55 but could easily hit 80 - so definatly worth doing the research. I eventually got talked out of it by SWMBO on the grounds that she has now grown to love the shape of the cob and the lack of anywhere to put weekend bags of "stuff" when I take my beasty out to play would restrict what I do with a T70.

Any car of this ilke done properly, will not be cheap by most people's interpretation of the term. The T70 suggests the heady days of days gone by, the Ultima is a contempory design that has aged well IMO and still looks fresh and exciting.
The major cost items for either would be the same. ie. engine and trans. There lies your problem.... What do you want and what can be afforded. I haven't driven either, but would expect both to be very similar in how they 'feel' to drive.
Your Cobra option is entirely different and probably imposible to compare in any meaningful, like-for-like manner. That you discuss T70's and Cobra's though, suggests that you have a sympathy for the old and not the new?
As mentioned above, none really suit day to day driving, but all could if forced to do so.

i always loved ultimas and still do, but preferred the classic look of the t70 so built one. neither car is practical or a daily driver in realistic terms, both built along very similar lines/methods and prob similar costs, altho t70 can come in a bit cheaper. 700bhp spec t70 built previously cost circa £70k i believe.

a GD T70 with a hardtop?
I only know with or without frontscreen...
can't think of one I've seen, I know about the GD T70 coupe but not the hardtop version.
a cobra is nice too, but many around makes them in my eyes a bit les exclusive?
a Ultima GTR I think you can lock? but a GD T70 I don'know...think not?
for me that would also be a bit importand, that you have some locking on your car just for the idea

I went on the T70 back to back in an event where we were competing (I was in my slightly more powerful Ultima canam).
There is no doubt that dynaically the T70 is superior to the ultima, it was a bit cramped in the cockpit for my liking though.... I love the look, but think the Ultima is better in that department.
Id also say there is a much bigger 2nd hand resell market for the Ultima as its not a replica so appeals to a much wider audience.
summary
if your planning on going racing pick the T70, if you want to go fast and cruise pick the Ultima. If you want a group hug pick a TVR
Of cause if you want the best car ever get a Noble lmao

Its currently being developed, due out over winter, its not a hard-top only, its removable with the new screen.I only know with or without frontscreen...

BTW Steve, how the hell does anyone get to 6,800+ posts? Now that's commitment my friend
Mostly by answering questions on this forum eh Steve

For most of us, it was a case of love at first sight. Saw the car - wanted the car. I was aware of other stuff out there (with varying degrees of interest), but to me, they were all a bit 'meh'.
It's also a time of life thing. Not necessarily being young or old, but circumstances sometimes dictate what floats your boat.
I'm looking forward to the time when I can justify another GTR (LS7 this time)

I Have owned a factory built T70 with LS7, A fantastic machine, mine was road registerted with kinsler stack induction, a adventure from the time you start the car & take it out on the road, Awsome performance, However you can only use the car legaly at around 5% throttle.
Fantastic track car & in the right hands will outperform most race cars, I know this for fact.
I upgraded my motor to 720hp & 630lb of torque, The car with a different paint job on the other thread.
If you want something different a T70spyder is a good choice, Not fantastic if it rains,. though,
