Dear builders,

now that I have clocked 3500 km on the car I have found that although I have modified the clutch pedal (LHD drive Ultima)
to improve space for my left foot I still do not like the position I can have for my left foot.
The factory had weld in a solid steel plate at the outside to gain some centimeters but I still feel this is not enought. I am a tall big guy
and after driving for a while I have trouble putting my left foot in a comfortable position. Anybody with similar problems and solutions to this ?

thanks

I am looking at it while building:
is the foot not far enough to the left?
is the angel of foot in restposition not good?
or does the foot not rest correctly?

KG Joop

PS: what size shoes do you have?

the problem is not the foot or shoe size itself I am unable to find a comfortable resting position, more space to the left could fix the problem I think

If you make more room there
your foot/toes gets more in an angel to the left,
that's no problem you think?

Or do you miss a stop/footrest to put your foot against?

Uwe
Do you have the cutout in the side skin which is shown in the Factory build CD?

what I have is the original solid steel sheet metal that is weleded by the factory but is not giving enough space for my foot to rest comfortable.

I think it's a mod for LHD drive cars...not RHD

yes is is LHD and I can imagine that driving a RHD car is more comfortable, whenever I have to take the LH side pod off, I will modify this section to have more space for my clutch foot.

why not, if I remove the clutch pedal, which I did before then I should have enough space to cut the sheet metal out.....this for next year though

I have the same issue and it's the first I heard of a 'cutout', any photos of one done would be most welcome.

There are pictures in the build manual CD. (Can't find them in my 2007 CD but they are in the 2009. Buildmanual/photos/003 footbraceLHD)

Basically you don't skin the left side of the (LHD) footwell all the way forward to the front bulkhead.
In this area the Factory have fitted a steel skin to the outside of the chassis tubes. You can then fit a footrest made from folded ali to the steel skin. This in effect gives you about 40mm more foot space to rest your foot beside the clutch pedal. Uwe is obviousley finding that this is still not quite enough so is talking of removing the steel skin (presumably so he can loose his foot right through into the side pod).

Steve,

Thanks, I'll pull my manual and take a closer look. I didn't do the build on my Canam and suspect it will be a tough retrofit. Is the steel bracing a recent mod or on all chassis? Mine is circa 2001.

Yes, the factory mods.

It's the pipe you hit with your foot

You can not take that pipe away.

Uwe,

I think you can replace the tube by a welded on steel panel.
Should have the same effect as the tube regarding chassis stiffness.
