removable gearbox member
Discussion
Hmm.....have thought about this on several occasions.....the last idea was to incorporate the rear roll bar braces too with some diagonal bracing between them and the upper x member structures.. would make the build and any serious servicing much simpler.
You could raise the car, open the rear clip all the way back and lift the engine/box out in one lump....probably in about 1.5-2 hrs tops !!
....Am still thinking !....

Jack Rosen did this with his car. He made the crossmember from alloy billet and modified the chassis to fit.
A link to his shop is on the USA website.
If you are considering changing to a Ricardo box be careful, a friend has fit one of these to a GT40 and the driveshaft angles are less than optimal.

I've also seen pictures but can't think why you would want to.
Unless you changed the design so that it incorporated more cross bracing I can't see the need.
You have to remove the rear clip as it will still not open fully even if the car is raised. The clip fouls the chassis before it is fully open. If you only need to remove the engine the 'box can be unbolted and slid back in the chassis on a piece of plywood.
Having the cross bars removable for engine removal infers this is something you need to do every few weeks.

Joop I am sure that you have already thought of this based on the very nice work you have already accomplished. I can tell you from experince that covering your airbox with the gold reflective foil available from several sources is well worth the effort and not small exspense. I get to Holland almost every year would love to see the car in person sometime in the future. Lee

There are a few pics of a White Ultima GTR from various angles on the Ultima website; White would be my choice if and when I can take the plunge- perfect for multiple race car inspired graphics too!
