Guys

Has anyone experienced both the sb factory 720 vs the newer LS 720hp?

If so was there any difference? If so how.

Im sure this has been discussed many a time but after a search ive failed to find the direct answer.

Hi Mark

A 720 bhp SBC is a highly stressed unit and if i owned it i would want to refresh it every 3-4 thousand miles or once a year, a LS can handle 700 bhp with a lot less trouble but to achieve a TRUE 700 bhp N/A would mean a nasty big cam which imo takes away from the lovely road manners of the LS. If you supercharge you can do it easily and you dont have to run a silly camshaft!!
You could stroke your LS3(take it to a 427 cu in, 7 litre) and fit some cnc heads and a biggish camshaft and see a good 650bhp or bolt on a ProCharger and see 630bhp without having to touch the internals, or with a little internal work we could get you to 700 bhp. You are welcome to have a test ride in mine( as anyone else is) when its back on the road to feel what a true 720bhp feels like.

BUT BAD LAD

please please lets get on the road first!!!

so what your saying is if i get my ls3 upto 7 litre, then we spec up the internals, and then we bolt on a supercharger, we should see some nice figures?

Ahh sounds nice

no point Mark...

if you want to supercharge then keep it the same size but fit some nice low compression pistons, steel crank and rods, custom camshaft, arp bolts, improved head flow (exhaust ports)

you could run upto 10psi on your block but i would not want to see anymore than that on a standard ali block unless you want the expense of Darton sleeves , i think 700 bhp would be achievable.

The problem with a big capacity(427 cu in) engine is that you need a huge amount of air or boost to fill the thing so thats why its best to keep the engine at around 6-6.2 litre.

How about this then....

Once its on the road, each time i need more power, ill drop it off and say - Ring me when its done??
All sounds a bit complex if you ask me.

Ha Ha

If you want loads of power there are some cheaper options that would make it possible to make 750bhp!! Sell your LS3 and go this route would be your cheapest option.

I think your need to experience the 'Dark side' to allow you to make an informed choice, i think if you went in a 700bhp n/a car then you went in a 700bhp blown car there would only be one winner.

my silly engine makes more torque at 2000 rpm than a LS7 does flat out. It runs a very small cam so it will have lovely road manners.... a win win situation? The LS9 is 6.2 litre supercharged unit and all manufacturers are now moving to the dark side as it allows smaller cc's, less emissions and lots of power. Unfortunately i think big capacity engines will soon start to disappear in favour of smaller cc engines and F/I.

All imo.

OK, i want a 1000 cc yep 1 litre!!!! supercharge it and tune so that gives me 60mpg and about 1000hp, or if you cant ill settle for 700hp.

Cheers mate, anyway back to reality, ive spoke to steve, will update you in the week.

Hi Mark, car is great but all tucked away for winter, LS2 is great you should get one wink

Hopefully see you driving yours in 2011.

Please just get yours IVA'd then think of more tinkering next winter as it will really hack you off missing the summer driving again.

Happy New Year

haha airfields in walsall??? rofl - you should know better.
I have been looking for one, recently made a friend with a guy who is 'something' at Prodrive near Kenilworth who have an airfiled. I will be working on that friendship.
There must be free runways all over the place, just want somewhere to roll up and 'muck about' on.

Mark

you wont need 700hp...550 is enough to start with..

We all want more but on the twisty roads more will get you in to trouble and hit the wall. The ult slides out of corners nicely with the torque anymore and you wont be able to fully floor it..There is nothing that will keep up with me on the cat and fiddle road and 550 is plenty for that road.. If you want more, listen to Kyle get a supercharger, detune to 550 and get used to the car and how it drives..When you want more power put a smaller pulley on the procharger and have more..

If you want a friendly airfield just pop over to Brunters or have a test on the M40 when there is no snow..

Have fun

Dom
