Newbie coming out of the closet
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Thought it was about time I came out and said something. Usual story, always really wanted an ultima but been messing about with all sorts of (cheaper) funny cars. Now adays its getting more and more likely so I'm starting to put some serious thought behind an Ultima. My background is in VW/Audi tuning circles and aside from the Wife and I daily TDi's the projects include a 500bhp Audi S4, a Carbon bodied polo G40 Turbo, and a 1978 VW Derby, Mid engined, RWD 2.0 Turbo. None of them truly finished of course
I always thought it would be a black or dark blue GTR, however I've recently had a single seater open cockpit experience which I loved and having been into bikes till about 5 years ago so I'm certainly not bothered about donning a skid lid. I really just want a car that can get me as close to a racing car experience without the mental costs. I did actually look in to a formula ford and the running costs... sod that. And not to mention the time to take it to places to use it. So back to the ultimas! But because of the open cockpit experience I started looking at the CanAm a bit more seriously. I actually prefer the windsrceen shape of the Canam too.
Engine: I would probably like to stick to my Audi Turbo roots and plump for a 4.2l 5v C6 RS6 engine inc turbos with GSXR1000 throttle bodies, custom plenum, running DTA engine management, mated to an Audi 6spd Tdi box with LSD. I even have a spreadsheet with my ideal chassis options too!
So havent really thought about it much.....
Being well plugged into Audi tuning circles I know there is another RS6 engined Ultima being built close to completion, which Im partially excited about and partially gutted that someone else beat me to it. I just hope the owner is happy to share there experiences when its done.
I can Fully appreciate the old school American speed power houses and my married side of family coming from Oz they certainly like the big V8s too. Im actually pretty surprised at the MPGs claimed from some of them. 20 mpg sounds amazing as my S4 wont get that! ( mainly down to my driving though).
Best thing about turbos is the instant adjustabilty of power. I can match the best power to thrill ration and chassis et up capability to the track or road conditions. You just dont get that from NA engines except via the throttle. Thats my line of thinking anyway.
Cheers, and I look forward to being ridiculed for my hairdressing hobbie which I clearly must have considering my current favour towards the can am.... ( ps loved the Hitler movie)
Cheers.
Mark.

That would explain the "coming out of the closet"!!! hahaI've become an audi fan too... I was always interested in the audi V8.... bought an S4 late 2009 as a daily driver, great little car. I'm currently shoving an Audi v8 into a Porsche 356. There's a few cool options out there for the Audi v8. Mine is an S5 engine with FSI, whilst I have the ECU, instrument cluster etc required to run the stock ECU, after further consideration I am probably going to go for individual throttle bodies and an aftermarket ECU.
Yea 64 months is some good lurking before a first post!!
Crafty: S5 engine.... good stuff I think Iv eseen acoupl of pics of the engine sitting in a primered shel. You might be interested in this

Supercharger kit to 531PS 628NM, group buy going on at a5oc.com too.
Oh and you dont need the clocks to run the std ECU which I also have to add is very good, but of course you cant play with it yourself unless you invest £ks in the equipment.
As for Stand alone I used to Have a DTA P8 Pro, and I have friends that have built and use Megasquirts and motronic and for me, I like the DTA stuff. Plenty options to add on later too. They have got some pretty good kit available now. Sounds like an interesting project, got a link to a thread?

mmm.. If the Multi-port blower will fit on the FSI heads, that plus an aftermarket ECU would be a nice way around FSI issues.
