Pagani Zonda R (track car) 1min 8.5sec round Top Gear track.

A very big brave pill for Ultima's Stig will be needed to better that!

Perhaps Berni would lend you one of his.

As your wealth/income grows your toys get more expensive.

A few bankers would be able to buy one from their bonus again this year!!

Guys .5 of a second? Any chance they just thought they would shut the Ultima fraternity up?

Knowing its a car vurtually none of us have access to to pitch it against the factory model? Watching the video does it look like its being pushed? I dont think so, now i know at 1.6mill it should look planted but even at those speeds it should be using every inch of the track due to the forces and speed etc. Looks a little too safe to me, however this is just conjecture and makes me as bad as every other person stating the Ultima run was fake. That being said, epic looks and sound.

The fact it was excluded from the list say's it all.

The GTR may have had slicks but with different tyres it could have been driven home. The Pagani couldn't.

Say no more.

Doesnt matter if they did it to piss factory off or not, it was on the TV in front of millions, one thing the Ultima has not done... We need a car on the show!!

I love the sound of a V8, but god that V12 sounded good.

Also, those paddle gear shifts make quite a difference to lap times. They are quicker than normal gearboxes when attacking a track. The problem for us is getting the software to work in our cars.

that is not the probelm, the question if you are ready for the money it will cost you.....honestly as long as you are not racing the ultima on the track I could not care less about shifting times. Since I own a R8 with the dreadful r-Tronic I really like my mechanical G50 a lot !

Now everyone is talking about zondas,

Is it feasible to put the merc engine and exhausts into the ultima? Might be more economical and sounds a lot better than the chev engines...

This might be a stupid question that has probably been answered before but why won't Top Gear feature the Ultima GTR? You would think that being British they would be jumping at the opportunity. So what's the real reason? Did someone step on Clarkson's toe and get black banned or what?

If TG featured the Ultima and it performed as well as we know it can the TG program would never again get the big manufacturers to bring their cars along. Net result...no more program.

Congrats to the Pagani Zonda R track car, that is an outstanding laptime and an amazing car.

Are the factory annoyed at being beaten?
Not in the slightest. This laptime only goes to illustrate the effectiveness and perfection of our Ultima GTR road going car. Every professional race driver will tell you that a full sequential gearbox and carbon brakes will be worth around a 1 second per lap time improvement on the top gear track, so if the Ultima GTR had a matching Pagani Zonda R sequential gearbox, carbon brakes and a similar set of slick tyres , it could be theorised that the Ultima GTR is virtually identical in performance to the Zonda R track car.
This isn't something we will pursue as these two items alone in Zonda R specification are likely to cost over £100k and we aim at all times to keep the Ultima in an affordable price bracket and in keeping with the KISS principles. It was a pleasure to watch such an impressive feat of engineering in action and even at circa £1.4million (excluding taxes) still represents good value considering the cars mind blowing specification.

We are very pleased here at the factory, very pleased indeed that it takes a car like this to match the Ultima performance envelope.
Good answer.

Ultimas really are a bargain, aren't they?

Eventually the sequential/flappy paddle gearboxes will get cheaper and more available (though not necessarily a Zonda one!!!).

Ultimas are great value in the performance car world. High cost, limited production run cars will gradually increase their performance as headlines sell cars. We are fortunate to be able to use some of their components to keep our cars competitive. After all we have a great starting point if we want to keep developing/adapting our cars.
