You contact the company you will use to cover the vehicle when on the road. You take out your years insurance but at this stage the vehicle is identified by its VIN. When finally registered you contact the insurer to notify them of the reg.
If for some reason DVLA require an MOT for registration then that will also be done on the VIN. DVLA will take this from you and amend it with the reg before returning it to you.

Hi Mark

You need proper normal road going insurance. as you well know min tpft.
Its the same as an mot situation. As long as you have a prebooked appointment and the insurance you are legal to drive to and from the test centre.
You are not covered to drive to the dvlc office at garretts green after you have passed the iva to have your engine/gearbox/chassis checked, but you can drive it back if you the plate.

Upto you if you take the risk. I personally found the M6 very at 6am as i travelled there for my 830am appointment.

I am insured with msm at Hinckley. Your insurer will insure you on your chassis number rather than number plate (which you dont have)

Take ALLL your paperwork and photographic evidence with you because if you pass you can walk across the road to dvlc fill in the registration forms hand them the documentation and money and make your inspection appointment there and then. Think i had to wait a week.

just as a by-the-by what happens if the IVA fails a major..does your insurance still count for the journey home?
