Hi, bit of a long shot... Does anyone out there have a Small Block Chevy on-engine valve spring compressor (for rental)?

I have tried one type of generic tool and it is rubbish so think I need a proper job but time is fast running out, any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers
Phil.

Do you mean without removing the heads?
If so then no I can't help.

Yep, heads still on engine.

I got a spark plug compressor tool, ie connect an air line to it and it pressurises the cylinder to hold the valves closed. But my valve spring compressor is meant to hook over the coils of the spring and allow the spring to be compressed, well it should but does a very poor job. What I need is one that fits onto the 7/16 rocker stud.

Have seen bad stories about the compressed air jobies...prefer the 'indian rope trick' myself.

I think that Real Steel sell one that is up to the job but expensive. I know you want to rent but. With our stiff springs a mickey mouse one is no good

Job done. And what a job and a half it was. Proper tool works a treat and so did the air line attachment, highly recommend both. First valve took about an hour, the rest a lot quicker (damn valve locks). Only problem was having to move the gear linkage out the way and then finding the chassis fouled cylinder number 4 so had to mod my air supply line and coupling. Happy now wink
