Anyone else encountered amusing local mis-understandings of what doesn't translate appropriately into English ?

Some of my Singaporean female colleagues today proposed renaming one of our business units into G.I.M.Private Ltd smile

.. they had never heard of the word 'gimp' hehe

My employer brought in 'Behavioural Safety'. and then used the acronym BS, the stoped the acronym when I wrote the HSE dept and told them what bs meant.

I saw one on a van this morning, it was something like:

Ban Cheong Medical Supplies Pte LTD
Import Export of Chinese and Western Medicine

They really should drop the "Ban". hehe

A also liked the sign on a photo printing machine at plaza sing some time ago "Out of Servers".

Spotted a few western tourists taking a few pics of themselves outside 'Wa%ko' the other day here in Harbourfront... Gave them the knowing glance.

There was a House of Hung Jewellers along Orchard Road at one point. They might have renamed themselves slightly since then.

Still there. Still called this. Still good value if you haggle like mad and are prepared to walk away.
