TV went off with a 'POP' noise.
Discussion
This is going to be rather vague: My brother is throwing away an LCD TV, he says it wet off with a 'POP' and slight burning smell, they didn't even bother to check the fuse before getting a new TV so I just wondered if it could just be a fuse?
I've personally never had a TV blow a fuse so I don't know if it fits this description. If you're wondering why I haven't just changed the fuse to check, they threw away the power cables and they are now gone so I can't test it without buying new ones, so I'm just wondering if it sounds like it could be fixable?
I have opened it up and there are no burnt components or anything I can see that would produce a burning smell. I thought it might have even been the transformer as it uses a 3-pin kettle-style plug into a block transformer and then from transformer to the TV, like a laptop charger:

Have a look around for swollen capacitors in the power supply.
Also be warned: Capacitors in the power supply can store high voltages (400v DC) for some time after the set has been disconnected from the power.
These can give you a nasty jolt.
Swollen capacitors tend to look like this: (note the bulge on the top of some of them in the pic)
